Dynon: how about a "de-clutter" button?  It would remove "layers" from the map page.  In the image above, I'd like to see the runway alignment relative to my position but I'm overwhelmed with other items.

Sure, I could drill down through menus and configure the map differently.  Or zoom and pan.  But not at 5 miles from the airport.

A single 10-inch SkyView display is all I can fit in my panel.  I like to run a constant 40/40/20 screen setup (PFD/Map/EMS) and that yields an area not much larger than a 3"X5" index card.  That is one busy screen on which to view a map with terrain, airspace, intersections, navaids, and now traffic and weather too.

I like the "de-clutter" feature the old Garmin GPSMAP-196 has.  Press the "Enter" key and the map sheds highways.  Press it again and something else disappears.  Press it enough and all that remains is the aircraft symbol and course line.  Press it once more and everything is restored.

If this request is considered favorably I will present some more <g>.  But the inverse is not true <g>.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the idea. I will add the request to our list.

We are in constant tension between adding more neat features and keeping the system simple to use. Ideas like this definitely help us figure out where the current issues are and where we can improve in the user experience.

I would like to add to this request for some sort of "declutter" function. I think there needs to be both a declutter specific to map items (airspaces, roads, labels, etc.) and a separate declutter specific to traffic.

I have added the ADS-B module and took my first flight across the San Francisco bay with traffic and was in for a shock. With all the airliner traffic here, all i basically saw was a black band covering up most of the airspace information on the map. It was difficult to navigate and remain clear of various airspaces with all the black diamonds cluttering the map and making things really difficult.

I tried going to Map Menu, desperately looking for some sort of way to hide map items. It took a series of knob clicks and pushes trying to hide fixes and some other map items. This is when i realized that traffic was not a configurable item.

When on the ground, I reviewed the traffic setup, and we only have 3 options: Off, All, TA Only. I assume TA is for traffic alerts. However, i feel like i want another option. TA is not enough. All is too much. I feel like i wish i could have a similar Map Item setting where at less than some zoom level, i see ALL traffic. Greater than some setting, I only see Traffic Alerts, which allows more of the map detail to come through. I hope that makes sense.

Finally, the Garmin GNS 400 series navigators, have 3 levels of decluttering quickly available by hitting the CLR button. Hit CLR once, one level of detail disappears. Hit CLR again, another level disappears. Hit CLR again, only your flight plan course lines show. Finally, CLR again and you are back at the default level again. It would be great if we had something similar.

Thanks for any thoughts,
Jae
