Flashing, distorted displays

On a recent flight from Hagerstown, MD (KHG) to Winchester, TN (KBGF) I noted a new problem with my dual 7" Dynon, Garmin 430 system. I entered KBGF into the Direct-to function in both the Dynon and the 430 and this caused my right hand (map) Dynon display to alternately flash nonsense and something that resembled a map but was mostly unreadable on about a 0.5 second alternating frequency. This was easily fixed by by changing the destination airport in either system but putting KBGF back in both caused it to recur. Other than that, the system worked fine so this appears to be some kind of bizarre software glitch?

Hearing no response from Dynon and no one else mentioning similar experiences, I have to agree with Harry: just avoid going to KBGF!  Or if you do, put different identifiers in the two units.....

Does it do the same thing when going to KUOS? fly there than use some pilotage to fly to KBGF!
Before avoid going to a destination, Download the new aviation data release. See if it does it with that release.
If you go there more than once, next time over the airport create a user waypoint. Wont do much if you get INFO from the screens but the 430 should be able to cover than piece if so. It will at least provide a "direct to" that airport

I'll have to try UOS. But it worked fine when I put some other identifier into the 430 and I don't use that display for navigation anyway so it's not an issue. But it's always interesting when a glitch surfaces because it might be a symptom of some deeper and more sinister problem. Or not....

If I had to guess, I'd guess database error. The software has read a field with some incorrect or garbage data in it, and tried to use it in some computation or another and it's failed.

Try reloading the same database (download it again, copy it to the stick, and reload it). If that doesn't work, then try it with a new database when available.

That'd be my approach for the moment.

Vernon;
In case my post wasn't clear the new database is available already for the July 26 to next month timeframe. Try loading it as Steve also suggested. Report back (reason to fly back there) and let us know if that resolved it.

Good idea; I also should have rebooted the Dynon system in the air to see if that helped. I'll try the old database again before I load the new one and see how it acts now that the trip is over.

That IS bizarre. I've filed a bug to see if we can reproduce it here. Are you sure that it's tied to the waypoint that's programmed into the 430? Putting a waypoint in there isn't directly tied to the GPS position that you see on the map. For GPS sources, do you have the SV-GPS-250? Or is the 430 the sole source of GPS position?

I agree that it's bizarre!! I have dual screens: the left is attached to the SV-GPS-250 and the right (which was flashing) is attached to the 430. I'm not sure that it was tied to the waypoint but when I put it in both, the problem occurred and when I used different waypoints, it did not. Are there any other tests I should perform?

So ideally, both displays should have both GPSes connected to them, so that both of them can see both the SV-GPS-250's position and the 430's position and nav information. If I had to guess, it has something to do with this asymetry. Any reason you have it set up this way? Are you short on serial ports?
