Horizon recovering problems.

I had a flight deck installed in a new jabiru back in April 08 and have done around 100 hrs flying with it.
Since day one I have had problems with the EFIS only EMS works fine.
quite often after turning the unit on the EFIS will be grey and black it will sometimes right itself but most of the time I will need to turn the unit OFF and then back on to get it to display correctly.
Then yesterday after landing the display on the EFIS only went erroneous with the compass readings constantly scrolling around the slip ball jumping from one side of the screen to the other everything seem to be doubled up and blurry.
After stopping for and hour I restarted the motor and had the same problem. I had to turn it off and on several times before it right itself. Once again the EMS was not effected.
Then today everything was okay until about 10 mins into the flight when for some reason the horizon was out about 20 degrees despite flying straight and level. Once again after stopping and heading home it worked perfectly.
Has anyone had similar problems. :

Hi Rick,

It does sound like we'll need to take a look at your unit here ultimately. Give us a call at 425-402-0433 and ask for tech support.

When the horizon is displayed in black and white, there should be an accompanying error message that comes up. What is it?

Attached is a photo of the dynon on startup with the EFIS being black and grey but does not have an error message.

I am still having problems with the dynon. There is no error message. I have a colored photo of what the sceen looks like but have tried to attach it but it must be too big of a file. Can you email me an address to send the photo to.

Cheers Rick

That first picture made it just fine. You can always, by the way, email support@dynonavionics.com to get personalized support.

If the unit is powered on and there is non-zero airspeed (as it looks like you have there), it thinks it has been powered on in-flight, and the black and gray horizon will displayed initially while the unit confirms that the attitude is correct. This typically takes a few seconds. This may be what you're seeing.

But the bigger question is, what is producing that airspeed reading on the ground? That's probably the root of at least this problem, or indicative of something wrong with the unit.

Make sure that the pitot line is clear. To check it, try pulling it off entirely to see if that 20 knots disappears. If it does, you may have a plumbing problem.

One thing to check is the zero airspeed calibration, which should not normally ever need to be set to anything other than the factory defaults. To check this, GOTO EFIS>SETUP>SPDCAL. If there is a 'reset factory defaults' under buttons 4 and 5, press it to clear any bad calibration that might have been inadvertently set. If the areas below those buttons is bland, then you can try the following (from the manual)....

-----
Airspeed is inaccurate by between 1 and 10 knots (or equivalent, in other units) at takeoff speed.

You may recalibrate your FlightDEK-D180’s zero pressure value. With your plane in as windless an environment as possible (e.g., a hangar), cover both the pitot and static ports with a sock or cloth to minimize airflow without putting pressure on the ports. Next, on the FlightDEK-D180, enter the EFIS main menu, press MORE > SETUP > MORE > MORE > MORE > SPDCAL. When you are confident that there is no pressure on the pitot and static ports, press either button corresponding to SET ZERO PRESSURE. Press YES to confirm you have zero pressure on the pitot and static ports. You will see a message indicating that the unit is calibrating. This should only take a few seconds. On your next flight, verify that the airspeed is what you expect.
To reset the airspeed calibration to factory defaults, enter the SPDCAL menu, and press RESET DFLTS.
