Flight Plan Question

Just returned from a xcountry to Atlanta and back and had lots of time to play with the new 7.0. I'm starting to abandon my GPS495 in favor of Skyview for getting information about airports and flight planning. Nicely done Dynon.

One minor point. I was doing some on the fly planning to get around an MOA. I normally just DTO a point I pick on the screen, but this time I made up a flight plan, the first point was a point I hadn't reached. The flight plan active navigation was from the point I hadn't reached to the next point. The AP wouldn't fly to the first point. I don't have a screen shot as it was stuck as mentioned else where on this forum.

Is this normal behavior or bug? does the FPL require a departure point?

I have a manual RNAV approach setup for my airport, it starts 10 miles out, when I load it up it does exactly what you mention, from the first point on the FPL to the next leg. I usually TRK or Direct to that (first) point than "activate the leg", which is second on line (so from first point to next point) when I arrive/pass the first point.
Normal for me. Be nice if I could have it fly to the first point from my current location and have it continue on the FPL created in the air without the need to manually go in and set Direct to.

With 7.0, there's now a pretty quick way to do this if you've ended up activating a future leg, which you can do by not starting with a direct-to. Just go to the FPL, highlight the line (the first one in this case) you want to go to, and then hit DTO.

By the way, mmarien, we're THRILLED with your second sentence.

So If I were to press the DTO, before the first leg begins on FPL, as I have in the past, it will now automatically kick in to the next leg once reaching the first point?

Comments like this make me realize I haven't scratched the surface of what my skyview can do. I did read the book on again on setting up flight plans. Looks like you can only import a FP from thumb drive. So, what are you using to create and save these FP gpx files on the thumb drive. thanks,

it's out dated as AOPA updated the version and dont have the export back yet.

I created a flight plan pretty quickly using the Flt plan within Skyview. I created a new flight plan and added the waypoints. Fortunately a trip from LAX to LAS takes 1 waypoint, a trip to Utah 2 waypoints, in the end I can do this while letting my engine warm up. its pretty quick. The more I do it the faster it is.

Righto. I was just attempting the AOPA planner..guess I will stop since it can't export in .gsx.

Surprised that the skyview doesn't have a save button for flight plans...??

read up on flight plans starting on 7-38 of pilot guide.
what you are looking for is on 7-43- EXPORT FLIGHT PLAN: Select to export the current Flight Plan to a USB stick memory stick in GPX format. The filename is automatically generated using the names of the first and last waypoints.

This is true.  Also, you may change the filename to something more descriptive (showing intermediate waypoints for instance) on a PC.  The .GPX file will still load in the SkyView.
