Flight Planning to Extended Runway Centerline?

I am using SV 15.0.2. I would like to have the next-to-final leg of a multi-waypoint flight plan connect to the 5-mile point on the extended runway centerline of my intended landing runway. I can't seem to set up such a waypoint chain in FPL mode. Is this possible?

Hi,

I achieved this when I was flying a multi-leg flight plan. My final leg to the airfield had me approaching the runway some 30 degrees off.

I selected the airfield, pressed MAP/INFO, selected the runway (put the green arrow head pointing to the runway details) and pressed Direct-To.

The plane then performed an S-turn to line-up on the extended centre line that was now drawn on the map.

Thanks Carl. I have used that procedure as well and it works OK. However, I was hoping for a more defined path to the 5-mile point instead of a last-minute "heading-to-intercept" leg.

Can't you just create your flight plan so the last leg lines-up with the runway you intend to use?

I guess I could create a "point-in-space" user-defined waypoint at the beginning of the 5-mile straight-in and include that point in my FP chain, but that seems a tad ponderous.

I would discourage long (5 mile) straight in approaches to uncontrolled fields. Using the same idea to enter downwind would be safer. Bear in mind radio use is not mandatory at these fields and some aircraft may not even be equipped much less using a radio. Food for thought.

Add the procedure of your choice to Foreflight and upload it to Skyview. Works for both standard traffic pattern entry as well as IFR procedures.

Anyone know exactly how long the extended runway lines are depicted on the MAP? Is this user-configurable at all? I see 2 of the same labels for the same runway sometimes, too. 10L at the end and 10L again somewhere in the middle. I wonder why the 2 labels are shown.

I tried to lookup in the manual but did not see it. Also tried to find in the map menu config, but only found the zoom level thresholds.

Thanks!

They're 5nm long. Not user configurable. There are usually one label on each side of the airport (ie one per line poking out at each end of the runway). Can you take a pic of what you're seeing?

Oops nevermind. Looks like I was seeing 10L and 10R and not a repeating of the label like I had thought. Looks fine to me now. Thanks.
