I am intrigued with the use of FlyQ and its Slingshot feature to upload Seattle Avionics Date to my Dynon Skyview HDX.
Do I need to be a subscriber to FlyQ to do this??? I'm already paying for subscriptions to Seattle Avionics and to Dynon and I am not very interested in paying more for the convenience of Slingshot.

Yes, you need FlyQ EFB to utilize this feature. See attached screenshot from the FlyQ settings menu. I used it once to give it a try, but that was the only time. It takes longer than I’d like, plus if you’ve got dual HDXs, you have to load the database on each unit. I’d rather spend the time at home letting the USB drive update while I’m doing something else than have to leave the master on for the amount of time it takes to load it on the two displays via slingshot. I guess if you’re only loading a couple of states and charts it might be quicker, but for the 13 states I loaded, it took too long.

Thanks - I was going to give it a try. I only have a couple of states loaded - but I'm too cheap to pay for another subscription. I'm already using and very much like my Skyview

I have three AFS screens in my RV-10 and came to the same conclusion. I have two sets of usb sticks and rotate them every other update. The data manager can keep them updated as a set if they are plugged in at the same time. I swap sets as soon as the new releases have been downloaded.

This is the EXACT process I use to update mine - two pair of USB drives I cycle between updates.

I've been flying behind Skyview for over a decade now and have been using Chart Data from Seattle Avionics and have used slingshot to upload data from my Ipad Mini. As I'm uploading two sets of data every 28 days (One from Dynon (FAA data for free) and one from SA (Costs $$ even though I bought a lifetime subscription). Why can't I do just one upload and get all the data at one time? Or conversely, Why can't I use Slingshot to upload the free Dynon updates?

Licensing and liability. Dynon doesn't like anyone else providing core functional updates to their systems, because if something goes wrong, it adds a lot more complexity to troubleshooting the problem, part of which may be out of their control. Plus, they could get the blame for problems caused by others. Databases that aren't part of the core system functioning are a different story, particularly when they aren't created by Dynon.

I'm curious why you are being charged, or for what, through SA with a lifetime sub? I have a lifetime sub as well and don't pay anything.
