Foreflight has become the killer app for flight planning for me. I carry it into the aircraft and enter data into my garmin GTN and skyview.
the garmin of course will not cross feed flight planning info to the dynon.
A collaboration with ipad Fore flight would allow a flow of flight plan information to easily flow to the dynon flight planning module

This would be a marketing plus for both Dynon and Foreflight.
( ps it would make me happy also )

Hi John! I too would like to see this happen, and am using Foreflight alot for planning on the ground. It's a backup in flight, with both maps and approach plates, as I also have the tablet with Anywheremap and Pocket plates. One problem I see with the connection is that the Ipad would require either a special cable or a wireless connection. HM

I find that the blue tooth in the iPad works very well in other applications. A blue tooth interface with skyview would have interesting possibilities. As in the aspen evolution avionics. :D

I second...or third... this request. I would love to pour my planned route from ForeFlight into Skyview.

Wireless would be great or another possibility would be to email the route from ForeFlight. Then copy the route file to a thumb drive for transfer into Skyview. More steps, but maybe faster to implement. :)

I will pile on here as well. Foreflight is an excellent tool and a wireless connection to Skyview to upload flight plan data and download EMS data would be great. Getting the flight plan data to the Garmin 430 would be nice as well. Looks like Guardian - Flight Guide has this working. I was not impresses with the Flight Guide App.

what would you possibly want to integrate with foreflight? i am struggling with this one....

also consider that you can only pair to one bluetooth device at a time, so if you pair to for example the skyview, then you wouldn't be able to use any type of GPS tracker

Yes this would certainly be helpful!. Either publishing a format that would allow any tablet software to send flight plans or do an exclusive deal with one of the providers.

Is there any way currently to do flight planning on the web or an app, then upload to Skyview?

SkyView accepts flight plans in the GPX format. Any program that can output this can be used.

There is a lack of integration between flight planning platforms. Even Pocket FMS with the EASY VFR app can't export flight plans from an iPad to a SkyView system in the field. Once you leave home, you need to manually re-enter into the SkyView... Even though it uses the PFMS database.

This is as much a limitation of the ipad as the SkyView because the ipad can't talk to a USB stick.

A BT interface to SkyView would help, but the flight planning apps also need to support talking to a SkyView, which isn't likely to happen soon.

Sigh.

And SkyView would have to become a Made for iOS (MFI) manufacturer and get Apple to sign off on our business plan and implementation... Bluetooth on Apple is seriously locked down.

Actually, this hasn't been true since IOS 6. The easy way is to support Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, no MFi program needed. Also supported by Android. You decide what you communicate over BT-LE.
I've built my own Dynon-serial-port to BT-LE adapter and am using it with custom IOS apps I've built. It would be great if there was some standardized EFIS BT-LE profile that app developers could support.

Bob,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't BTLE on iOS very slow? You can only send 20 bytes at a time and max bandwidth is about 3kb/sec. That seriously limits the uses of such a connection.

It can be slow just using the defaults, but with the proper profile definition, you can do quite well. My custom firmware BTLE adapter and IOS app has no trouble keeping up with the Dynon serial port streaming the ADAHRS+EMS formats at 9600 baud with no data loss. Can't do 19200 though.
The key is to negotiate the connection parameters and use the Notify PDU to stream data.
One app I have does SavvyAnalysis-like strip charts in real time.

It is a pleasure to see the exchange of attitude information and flightplans between Foreflight and Skyview using the WiFi adapter.

Would it be possible to have ADS-B info (traffic, weather) exchanged as well?

My copilot would appreciate that even more then I do...

Thanks!

Dynon Support can only comment on current features or products.

"Exporting / Streaming" ADS-B data being received on SkyView to another device is not a currently a feature of SkyView.

There are a number of standalone ADS-B receivers that integrate with tablets and phones.

Yes, but if you already have the Dynon ADS-B In receiver installed in your aircraft, you currently have to install another ADS-B receiver to get traffic/weather displayed on a tablet. So you have to have two ADS-B receivers installed to show traffic/weather on both Skyview and a tablet.

We're always looking for ideas for future features. ADS-B to Foreflight is a possibility, and we'd love to hear from anyone that would find that useful.

We really can't comment when / if it will happen. Getting things aligned is a bit trickier with both Dynon and an app vendor involved at the same time since we all need schedules to align.

Keep the ideas coming!
