Thinking of using a skyview in an aerobatic aircraft that will regularly see 4g and occasional 6g. Will it work?
Thanks

Yes, it will work very well. My SV sees 4g on a regular basis in my Yak/nanchang. I've used it for over 2 years.

The SV keeps up with acro ok. If you roll and pitch at the same time above certain rates it will tumble a little. It takes a few seconds straight and level and it comes back quickly. So the SV is good for acro, just not in IMC. :)

Mine saw +8 and -4 yesterday....and sees a bit more than that regularly.

If ADAHRS function normally, operating SV in IMC isn't a problem.

Moving maps look real good in SV, no different than any other high quality GPS's. Adding a good autopilot is a big plus in IMC.

Personally I don't trust combining Autopilot to SV due to the redundency reason.

My comment about IMC was doing acro in IMC. it was meant as humor.

As for AP and SV in IMC, it has redundancy with 2 screens and 2 ADAHRS.

Dear Bear,

Have you done any AP flight test with simulated SV/ADAHRS failure? if so, can you share your test procedures and the result with us?

Jay,
Every release we test redundancy. We fail an AHRS, we short and break wires in the network cables, we turn off screens, and we verify it all works as expected (which is to say it just keeps working as normal).

So, what is your question? As long as the SkyView has at least one screen working and one AHRS working, the AP works exactly as it always does. Thus, what would you expect any user to see?

+10 -8 is no issue for Skyview 10". I wish I could say the same for the pilot.

Keep the ball centered and the ADHARS will recover even if wings are not level and, yes, it will even recover inverted :)

Regretfully, the G sensor is not accurate at high Gs and is temperature dependent. That is MORE than made up for by having all those traffic vectors from ADS-B.

I noticed that, too about higher Gs... SV usually pegs at +6.5 even when I am at 9 on the steam gauge. I did not notice anything about temperature, though. Interesting...

I haven't been able to push more than 5--working on my tolerance, and up to that point, the digital and analog seem to agree...

I would love to remove the steam gauge, but I don't trust SV for the heavy stuff. It would be fantastic if a future release addressed the G meter and improved the accuracy.

The ADS-B is my main thing, too--I've had two close calls practicing over the years. Nothing like being halfway through a figure and seeing someone flying innocently through my sequence at a range close enough to read N numbers.

I'll live with the G meter as it is for the traffic piece of mind, but if I can have a more accurate G meter, I sure won't complain.

Randy,
I dropped the G meter in my MX2. I had one in my 300L but never really used it. I always flew within the Extra's limitations and the 2 exceeds those by a long shot (so no real need for the seperate meter).
