I just started experimenting shooting GPS approaches with a Garmin 175. The first thing I noticed the glideslope didnt activate until the FAF about 5 miles from the runway. Is this normal ?
The VNAV will become active on the GPS175 oon the leg inbound to the FAF. That is normal.
The second approach the final approach course didnt line up with the runway. I also had no glideslope information. Im wondering if the 175 is having issues or its a communication issue with the Skyview?
Well, some approaches do not line up with the runway. Look at the RNAV-04 at KMHV, for example. If you don't tell us which approach it was that you're discussing, it's going to be pretty hard for anyone to guess at whether the system is behaving correctly or not.
And since you don't tell us which approach you were on, it's also hard to know if it would/should have had VNAV displayed - was this an LPV, LNAV, LNAV/VNAV, LP+V or LP approach? Not all have vertical guidance... See:
A simplified guide to understanding LPV, LNAV, and LNAV/VNAV approaches in aviation, covering how each one works.

And folks - as has been mentioned numerous times before, the more information on your situation and configuration you can give when asking a question, the more likely it is that someone will be able to help. "This isn't working" isn't a lot to go on...
