Garmin 296 does not work as NAVSRC for D700

Hello,

I have installed an D700 with GPS0:SV-GPS-250 and GPS1:Garmin 296. In the PFD menu I can select GPS0 and GPS1 as NAVSRC and then appears GPS0 or 1 left of the compass together with DTW and name of destination. So far so good.

If I switch to AP menu and the GPS0 is as NAVSRC selected then I have a NAV mode button, but if GPS1 is selected then there is no NAV mode button for AP control.

But the connection between GPS1 and D700 is established: I see on the D700 display the distance and the name of the destination which I activated on the GPS1.

In serial configuration of the D700 I selected 'GENERAL-GPS' for the Garmin 296.

Does anyone has the same problem or has someone an idea why is it impossible to use the Garmin 296 as NAVSRC?

Is the Garmin 296 incompatible to work with D700?

Thanks!

You need to set your 296 to "normal" not "fast" in the advanced serial output page.

Ok thanks. I will check it. I think I set it to 4800 baud...

Best regards,

It also needs to be set for NMEA out/aviaton in, which is 9600 baud. The 4800 baud setting will not work.

Thank you. I will try it on weekend and hope there is NMEA out/aviation in on the GPS296 selectable...

You can also set it to NMEA & VHF out and this will change the baud rate to 9600.

Thanks Brantel. I think the 296 has only NMEA Out/NMEA In mode for the interface. But there is an advanced NMEA setup for changing output rate and ouput sentences. May be I will find something to fix the problem. I will report it.

The 296 definitely has NMEA & VHF out which will make the baud rate 9600.

If yours does not, a firmware update will make it available.
