Generic vs Expensive Dynon Video Adapter?

Dynon sells a $190 USB video adapter when I can get a decent one on Amazon for $20-30. Do I have to buy Dynon or will the generic video capture USB cards work as well? Anyone tried that yet?

I don't know for sure but the driver inside the Dynon EFIS may not be compatible (think Linux vs Windows). No harm in trying one and returning it if it doesn't work.

Dynon Video Adaptor

Is there anything special about the Dynon Video Adaptor? It looks like a simple Analog Video/S-Video to USB which is fairly ubiquitous and available at much, much lower prices. Has anyone tried anything else?

Oops. That was the camera, not the adapter. Sorry.

You might try a DisplayLink adapter, since they're Linux compatible. I wouldn't know which one to try though.

However, if your camera outputs HDMI instead of S video or composite, your possibilities might be better. There's tons of Linux HDMI capture adapters out there.
