GNC300XL connections to skyview

In reviewing the skyview install manual the pinout connections for the 300XL do not make sense and seem to be lacking. The pinout connections appear to only allow communication in one direction - from the 300XL to the SV-ARINC 429 module. It appears there is no communication back. For a certified A1 install the 300XL requires pressure altitude input and also a manual course input. The 300XL install manual indicates pressure altitude input can be done via altitude data digitizer (is this a serial input) and the manual course input can be from an EFIS ARINC 429 bus (Im thinking via the SV-ARINC 429 device TX function). If anyone has connected these devices up to achieve A1 I sure could use a pinout. I'm thinking I can just hook up the SV-ARINC 429 device TX A&B to the appropriate pins 32 and 33 on the 300XL to get the course information and maybe pin 17 to one of skyviews serial ports. I know about the annunciator that is required etc. Any help here will be most appreciated.

So we do output label 100G (gama variant of 100) and 320 (magnetic heading), so I think - but am not sure - that if you hook up the input side of things that you may get the results you're looking for. We do also output altitude over ARINC but it doesn't look to be received. We DO, however, have serial outputs with altitude information that you *may* be able to use in conjunction with the serial input (not sure which of our serial formats might work, if any, but the 3 that have altitude output on them are the DYNON CONVERTER, and the two ICARUS ALTITUDE formats)

Thanks for the reply - I'm also communicating with the Garmin folks now trying to get this puzzle sorted out. They are telling me that the GNC300XL will accept ARINC 429 label 100 (selected course), Label 314 (true heading) and Label 320 (magnetic heading). They indicate that it probably will not accept the GAMA variant of Label 100. Are all of your Labels GAMA variant or just Label 100? I don't understand what the GAMA variant means, could you enlighten me please.

Please tell me which two ICARUS formats you transmit.

Is there a difference between the ARINC output with the SV-ARINC 429 and the HS 34?

The two Icarus formats are fundamentally the same. You get to choose whether or not altitude is output with 100 foot or 10 foot resolution.

Without getting into the deep technicals, ARINC-429 has a bunch of labels which identify different functions. GAMA, which is an general-aviation centric industry group, did work to produce a standard sub-set of labels. So there's for example label 100, which is the non-GAMA variant, and label 100G, which is the GAMA variant. If the 300XL requires the non-GAMA variants, it's not likely to be compatible. Our ARINC support is tuned to support Garmin's modern GPS receivers like the Garmin 430 and GTN series. These devices do need the GAMA labels. We output a mix of GAMA and non-GAMA labels to best suit the input that those devices expect. I know the SV-ARINC-429 outputs at least the following four labels, although this list may not be exhaustive:

100G Selected Course (OBS)
203 Pressure altitude
210 True airspeed
320 Magnetic heading

In short, though, if the 300XL needs the non-GAMA variant of course it won't be able to receive course information from SkyView.
