Today while practicing an ILS (KFNT, rwy 27) everything was going well until I got down near the DH. Suddenly the Course pointer, which had been at 274 degrees, popped over to (about) 360 degrees. It still showed me on the localizer, but the needle popped over to the right. After the missed approach, it started bouncing back and forth rapidly in course direction indication. Driving it from a Garmin 430W, with the arinc 429 converter. Until this issue, every setup and operation check was perfect. Any thoughts on what this was? (I had flown the same approach 2 days ago, did not see this problem)

We're wondering if there's a bug when the ILS flags. We don't have a 430 here at the moment to test that theory here, but if you can manage to test the following scenario, it might be instructive: What happens when you flop to another ILS frequency that's definitely not in range (and therefore flagged). Does the course whip around to 360?

WX here in Michigan hasn't been good, so havent had a chance to check this. However I did it on the ground outside the hangar, and the needle didnt budge. But it was not set to anything in the first place because I couldnt receive the localizer from anywhere, even my own homebase ILS can't be picked up at the hangar. I'll try again in flight next chance I get.

In regards to the HSI and 430 combo, I have noticed that when you select GPS 0 ( internal with no destination there is no neadle present on the HSI. If you select the GPS1 (430) with no destination programed the neadle is present but dosent move. Why the diferance?

The 430 is reporting course, even when there's no GPS waypoint active, and so we show it by default. We could probably tweak that behavior easily to be consistent (assuming I'm not missing anything). We'll look into it.

Tim - we actually tried to reproduce your behavior, unsuccessfully. Does it still do it in 3.1?
