GPS data to a Shadin Econoflow fuel totalizer

Prior to my Skyview installation I had an II Morrow Apollo Model 360 feeding GPS data to a Shadin Econoflow fuel totalizer. The Shadin could display nm per gallon and fuel used to a destination. I am trying to connect the GPS output from my Skyview to the Shadin but I am unsure of the correct settings, or if this is even possible.

I set up the Skyview to output basic NMEA at 4.8Kb to the #1 serial interface that I wired to my Shadin. I have not yet been able to test this setup while flying but in the hangar I see the Shadin is responding to the data and displaying error codes.

Does anyone have any information on the data format used by the Shadin? I contacted Shadin for information but did not receive any useful information except to buy one of their newer models (mine is a mid-90's vintage). I selected the NMEA 4.8Kb format based on the options I found in the GPS installation manual. There were several data format available but the other formats were manufacturer specific.

Someday Spring will come to MN and the snow will melt and I will try out the setup while flying, but today is not that day, and tomorrow is not looking very good either.

Hoyden,
Your best bet is to boot up that old Morrow and see what the serial out was set to. A seach for "Shadin Econoflow" brings up the last time you asked about this as the #1 hit on google, so there isn't much info out there!

In case anyone wonders, this user does not have the an engine monitor on their SkyView. It can do fuel flow, fuel totalization, fuel remaining at destination. and fuel economy all right inside SkyView, using the same sensor the Shadin uses, but they have another EMS in the plane already.

It probably makes perfect sense to go ahead and buy the Dynon EMS for all the reasons just enumerated. I currently have a JPI EMD-700 and Shadin fuel totalizer; the remaining gauges are of the traditional round variety.

Be that as it may, if I can get my Shadin working again with a couple of wires and some system settings I would choose that now and use the dollars to upgrade to ADS-B, the new radio (I have two Terra's) and the intercom.

Knowing I can use the fuel flow transducer and CHT/EGT probes does make the EMS transition a bit more tempting. Adding a second display in addition to the EMS would fasure be the Cadillac solution.
