GPS Failure

I flew a short flight today and the GPS didn't lock on as quickly on first power up. It was good to the destination. An hour later it again failed to acquire for longer this time. About 5 minutes into the flight the  map display quit. I rebooted in flight and it came back and functioned the remainder of the flight. I have had zero issues until now, this was about the longest flight since adding ADSB and v6 firmware. Any thoughts?

Nothing immediate comes to mind here. Were you getting a "?" on the airplane, or an position lost warning message? If the former, it could simply have been GPS reception (there are times that you don't have ideal satellite positioning, even with the huge constellation they have up there now).

FYI - I have seen this happen once where the Gps Antenna & wiring (where it goes into the base of antenna) had been 'handled' a lot resulting in a fault - we had then connected another Gps-250 (both were made up with 12" pigtails) and so were able to positively confirm that the fault was with # 1 ;)

The map just went black. Rebooting brought it back. I will keep an eye on and see if I can't give some better clues. I will also check the serial connection I did work on that connection while installing the adsb, possibly a pin has backed out?

If it happens again, it's important to look at the screen carefully and see what you are getting. You can end up with a red X across the GPS screen, or a flashing "?". We don't knowingly have a way to go "just black". Knowing for sure exactly which of these is happening would be very helpful. Grabbing a user datalog and looking at it could also show you if the GPS was going offline.

No red x but not sure about the ? I think yes. Need to fly more and see what happens. It's a little rough being down to only 3 moving map GPS navigators :) 5 if you count the smartphones! Probably should add an ADF?
