GPS not functioning

I have a SV1000, with the GPS and most of the rest of the dynon stuff. I also have an old Garmin 396 installed as a backup and it's wired into my dynon. The other day I had the 396 out to get behind the panel. I powered up my dynon an got a message NO GPS POSSITION SOURCE! I couldn't figure out why. I checked wiring, setup etc. it appears the dynon GPS died on me, and the dynon switched to the 396 with no message, or a message I didn't get. I didn't know it happened. Once I connected up the 396 again I got the map and all appeared normal. So I have a dead GPS, can they be repaired?If not I guess I'll hold out for the GPS 2020.

Couple of quick thoughts:

Go to the Serial Set-up and check if the GPS is set up correctly (normally Port 5) and if data is transferring. Also, it should be POS 1. (Install Manual p8-4) Second, on the Serial setup, you configure the order for the Skyview Position source - make sure it is correct (p4.25).

Hope this helps and you can recover your GPS.

Paul thanks for the suggestion, I already did check in the setup. The dynon GPS was there on serial 5. There was no data showing, only errors. The dynon GPS was on pos1. I should go through the setup again I guess. But when you select the dynon GPS, you don't have any choices, from what I remember. It selects the defaults for you. I'm wondering if I have it and the garmin 396 on the same POS, but I don't think you can do that.

Can you take screenshots or pictures of what you're seeing on both of your serial ports and email that to support at dynonavionics dot com?

Have you ever been sure that your Dynon SV-GPS-250 was connected/worked? IE, if the 396 has always been simultaneously on, and the SV-GPS-250 was not connected or otherwise inoperative, the 396 may have been your actual active source all along.

Are you seeing ANYTHING on the RX counter for the SV-GPS-250? If no, then the first thing to check out is the wiring to it.

I will take pictures and get them to you. Yes it was working for sure. I had it alone hooked up in the beginning. I then wired the 396 into the system at a later time. I do remember seeing that the GPS 250 was on pos 1. I was getting no serial activity. I'm going out to the airport tomorrow night so I will check it again then. If it is not working I will remove it.

I have only seen one 'fail' which was caused by constant flexing of the wiring out of the base by 'handling' the unit too often - not saying that happened here (just trying to help pin point the cause) but it's something to consider. I found that out as there were 2 x Gps 250's with a 9 pin dsub connector on each (at the end of 1ft of wiring) so swapping them narrowed down the problem.

Jake, Thanks for the input. I doubt that's the problem here. I see the wiring clearly, been good for a few years now. I have the wires coming to a terminal strip inside the cockpit and then the cable from the skyview connects to the other side. Below the actual GPS antenna is clearly visable. What I could try i'm thinking is to connect this GPS to a different skyview or visa versa to see what I get. First thing is to go throught the setup. I can't see how it could have changed but who knows. It may be from a few firmware releases back and I just never noticed.
