GPS off line after upgrading to latest software

Hi guys,

This may be coincidental, but, I installed version 14 of the software yesterday including engine sensor data file and now my Skyview GPS won't come online. It was working fine before this. I am also seeing the error message No ADSB out displayed.

The GPS is on serial port 5, Pos1, but I am not seeing any RX data or errors etc.

Any ideas would be really appreciated.

Cheers
Eddie

That sounds like a coincidence. But first, try setting that serial port to nothing, then exiting setup (this saves your settings), and then set it back to the GPS. What version were you coming from?

Went for a fly and even though I am seeing data the gps is still off line ?

I only get synthetic vision when the Garmin gps is selected, turn the Garminoff and I get just the off display even with the Skyview selected as the hsi source ??

Cheers

The RX from Dynon Gps is what you're looking for, if the counter is not moving then you won't be getting the data needed  ;)

I am perplexed as to why this has stopped working, I only replaced the GPS 3 months ago, it worked fine up till 2 days ago when I did the software update?

Any ideas on how to test that the GPS is still functioning would be appreciated. I am no seeing any Rx data but can see Tx data so that was a furphy on my part as mentioned by Jake.

My first GPS lasted nearly 3.5 years so I would be rather disappointed if the replacement has died after only 3 months.

Hi Eddie - Can you contact our technical support team directly at either support at dynonavionics dot com or 425-402-0433? If it really is broken after 3 months (that seems unlikely, but possible), it would be warranted.

Also, you should only see RX on the GPS. SkyView doesn't transmit to it on that serial port, so something isn't adding up. What is the device name on that serial port set to?

The device named is Dynon SV-GPS-250 on serial port 5, serial function POS1

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the email that I am sending to support;

Hi Guys

Your support person on the Skyview forum suggested I get in touch.

I upgraded my software last week from V13 to V14 and now my SV-GPS-250 will not show as online, this results in my Garmin GPS is being selected as the default GPS source.

As a side effect the Dynon Transponder is giving the error message “NO ADSB OUT, Dynon SV-GPS-250 offline”

I purchased this GPS as a replacement from you 3 months ago after my original SV-GPS-250 died after 3.5 years of service

The new GPS has worked fine for the last 3 months until the software upgrade, however this is probably unrelated.

I have not changed any wiring since it was installed nor have I changed my system configuration.

When I select Setup Menu->System Setup->Serial Port Setup, I am not seeing the RX data counter incrementing from the GPS , however the TX data counter is incrementing ???

The GPS is wired to serial port 5 and set to serial function POS1

The Dynon support person on the forum previously suggested setting it to NONE and exiting setup and then coming back in and setting it back to Dynon SV-SPS-250 however this made no difference.

Can you please advise how I test the unit to see if it is working or not

Hi Eddie,

You can also check function of the GPS by going to SETUP MENU > LOCAL DISPLAY SETUP > GPS FIX STATUS.

Just a wild guess but have you checked all of your other settings? Sounds like something may have changed in the setup. are the baud rates correct"

Here is what it should be
SERIAL IN DEVICE: Dynon SV-GPS-250
SERIAL IN FUNCTION: POS 1
SERIAL IN/OUT BAUD RATE: 38400
SERIAL OUT DEVICE: NONE

Do you have one or two displays?

What are the serial settings for the GPS430? Is it possible to have two POS1 settings and have a conflict?

Also, wondering about the ADS-B-out message? Do you have a ADS-B out transponder installed? If not, I do not know if you even should be getting this message. Could there be something in the configuration that is incorrect for ADS-B.
Wiring and failure of the GPS-250 could be a possible cause but it sounds remote since it quit after doing update to V14.

I'd be real interested in the outcome of this - with the info provided it just does not make sense  :)

Eddie
1. The only thing you changed before this 'event' was inputting vers 14, correct ?
2. no wiring or settings changes, correct ?

3. Did you 'handle' the SV-GPS-250 wiring at all & where is it mounted ?

If the settings are as per what he, Rvator 51--
Here is what it should be
SERIAL IN DEVICE: Dynon SV-GPS-250
SERIAL IN FUNCTION: POS 1
SERIAL IN/OUT BAUD RATE: 38400
SERIAL OUT DEVICE: NONE

If Yes (especially the question about the antenna) to all the above then I'd suspect the antenna wiring has been damaged ((the damage was not visible with the one I found) where it comes out of the bottom of the antenna (can't fix that).

Although anything is possible the chances that the new software caused the problem is remote IMO, if there was an issue then we'd hear more reports of what you are experiencing. ;)

PM me if you want as I can give you a 'loan' of another Gps to try.
