Hi - While waiting for our panel install to be complete, a question came up from one of the instrument guys in our club.

If you're flying an ILS/LOC approach, with an IFD with the HDX's HSI source set to IFD GPS, and the IFD auto-switches to VLOC, will the HSI switch, too? I think the answer is "no" based on what I've seen in the Dynon training videos, but wanted to check with anyone who might have first-hand knowledge.

just finished my instrument and yes, once it locks onto the glide slope it will switch to VLOC and it will turn green on the HSI

Just to clarify, once the external navigator switches to VLOC, the HDX's HSI turns to green needles? That's awesome!
Yes, it does work as long as it is configured to do that in the SkyView ARINC 429 setup menu.

All this stuff is making it really hard for me to continue to justify putting off my IR. Thanks for the answers! I'm sure I'll have more as we get the plane back and the club members have more questions (why do they always ask me, anyway? I'm just a VFR guy. But I do get the answers, which is probably why.).

To allow the HSI to track the CDI key on the navigator, you have to toggle on the ARINC option "Allow Auto Switch (Label 100P)".
