Ground testing GPS+HS34+D100

I have the above units working on my bench (Lowrance 2000c GPS). Even though the GPS is properly configured, connected to an outside antenna with good nav data coming in, has a course laid in, and is sending the correct data to the HS34, I'm still getting a "WAITING FOR GPS FIX" message on the HSI. Is this normal? Do I have to actually be flying a course for the HS34 to recognize the GPS data?

If you have a fix, it should not show that message. You must have a software setup wrong or a wiring problem.

You called it. I had ground and RXD reversed. Works great now.
