I was one of the HDX test pilots and found the screen to be a serious issue. I flew several hundred HDX test flights and can assure you the reflections "do NOT appear much worse on camera." They are bad - period! In person. Using Mark I eyeballs. I wrote many reports about this issue and was sent 3 different anti-glare stick-ons to evaluate as possible solutions. None provided satisfactory resolution IMHO, and none allowed screen conditions equal to the SV-Classic or Touch.
The HDX had a number of other screen issues or problems. One was - despite any NIT measurements claiming otherwise - much dimmer than the previous and difficult to see in direct sunlight. (I fly an RV-12 with a bubble canopy.) I provided many pictures illustrating the problem. Side by side, same sun angles etc.
The HDX also has a serious off-axis viewing problem. I noted this immediately on first fire-up, when standing alongside in my hangar to make the initial config set-up. I had difficulty reading the display. My co-pilot, who had hundreds of hours in the airplane, immediately complained about not being able to see the flight instruments (when they had been clear previously.) I found the only way I could play with the HDX, and adjust the various settings - e.g. customize the Engine displays, was to sit in the airplane. It is a puzzlement to me how an airplane could be used for flight training when the instructor has such a difficult time reading the panel from the right seat.
Yet another HDX screen problem involves font sizes. The HDX down-sized certain fonts by 2 points - enough to make them unreadable by my old eyes. I'm referring, for example, to the Course and Heading box callouts using the six-pack display. Dynon acknowledged this type size reduction, but did nothing about it. (I suggested making the font sizes adjustable.)
HDX had myriad other issues, but I am only addressing screen problems here.
In the end, although given the opportunity to continue with HDX, I reinstalled my SV-Touch panel, which I felt then, and feel now, is far superior. It is regrettable that Dynon discontinued that model of Skyview. My only recourse going forward will be to buy a second hand unit to support my flying.
