HDX trade up

Picked wrong week to install new HDX. I thought the only difference between the Classic install and the HDX was the need to drill two new holes on bottom of both units.
Have discovered that the screws are smaller, thus new nut plates. This has gone from a DIY to hire a professional.
Also learned that my USB ports to update data will no longer work. Access to the back of the new HDX is impossible once installed.
Dynon usually responds within hours to inquiries, but with OSH going on this week, it's been a week. Perhaps someone else has gone thru this process.
I've heard that I can update chart data and Dynon updates wirelessly? What do I need to do this?
Has anyone ran new USB cords hardwired to back if unit ? Could I run the same to my existing female USB ports?
Has anyone had to recalibrate their AOA?
I sent all my pin settings to Dynon a week ago. Is their response necessary prior to fly the plane ?

No criticism of Dynon, this is their big week and I'm sure they will get back in due time

You can update the Seattle Avionics charts wirelessly, but if you do the whole US or more it takes too long. I just update the USB sticks at home and swap USB stick at the hanger.
It is far easier to run a USB extension cord and port to the panel than getting to the back of the unit.
Installing new nutplates is not very hard. Any aircraft builder could do it easily. However if you have no skills or tools I know it would seem difficult. If it is an Experimental aircraft, someone from your local EAA chapter could help.

The USB ports previously supplied on the cables were problematic, and Dynon disabled them some time ago. As rjones pointed out, an extension cable is an easy fix. You can run it to a port on the panel, or simply let it hang down in a convenient spot under the panel.

Btw - the screw thread size is the same ie 6-32 & the 2 upper nut plates are still used, you only need to add 2 nut plates for the lower 2 holes in the HDX
Also - everybody has supply/response issues around OSH.

There are three equivilent USB ports on the HDX. One that is attached to the D37 Harness, and two others that are just just mounted in back of the HDX panel. You can attach an extension cord to any of the three.

Bretana - you meant only the 2 physical ports in the back of the displays are used now, & not the one that was attached to the harness (new units & harnesses do not have the USB cable attached anymore)

Ahhh, thanks for that! I did not know that the USB port on the D37 harness was no longer there. Thats a change from four years ago. Is this change only on the harness, or have the pinouts for the USB port also been removed from the D37 port on the back of the HDX??

Not sure what Dynon did in relation to the internals however I guess they have just disabled that usb cable input on new units after a particular serial number.

What I was wondering is if they've removed (or re-purposed) the pins on the DB-,37 connector on the back of the HDX that were used to connect that USB cable. Or just removed the cable from the harness and left those pins bare...
Looking at the latest Skyview Install manual, (Rev AM), the wiring pinout chart for the DB-37 connector no longer shows the USB port, (although there are a lot of "Do Not Connect"s...

Not sure, but you could ask them. It may not be supported in the software anymore either. However, why would you want to use it when it was the source of several problems?
