I did a search but didn't find the answers I needed. I am wiring the headset and mike jacks for a Dynon radio and two place intercom.

I am starting with the co-pilot phones jack using the Dynon harness with the shielded cables.

As you can see in the pic below, there is a blue, red, and yellow wire. For the phones, only two get used. For the mike, all three get used.

My question is, how do I know which tab to connect each wire to? I can't find in the manual where it states which color goes where. Perhaps I am missing it, but thank you in advance for you help!

Technically all three do get used for phones but a non-stereo headset only needs two. You should wire all three to the jack though.

The manual does not mention colors; instead they seem to expect people to test each wire to identify it instead of relying on color. It's kind of annoying.

Really?? That's insane! I'm very surprised that Dynon would make a pre-made harness and then make the installer go pin by pin trying to identify each wire.

Dynon- do you have this information you can post so I don't have to search pin-by-pin??

I'm starting with the Co-Pilot Phones wiring. There's a shielded cable coming out of Dynon's intercom harness that is clearly labeled "co-Pilot Phones". The shielded cable has three wires inside-red, blue, and yellow (see pics in my first post above).

In order to find out which color corresponds to which pin number, I used a meter from each of the three wires to the D-Sub 25 connector that plugs into the intercom.

Yellow is #6
Blue is #13
Red is #18

So these wires are completely wrong according to the diagram on page 2-3 of the install manual.

The diagram says that pin 6 goes to "Skyview Audio (L)" pin 13 goes to "Power In" and pin 18 goes to "Music Lo"!!

This makes no sense at all! Those three wires should be attached to pins, 8, 21, and * (which the note says should be ground).

Either Dynon built this wiring harness completely wrong or I'm misunderstanding their diagram.

Are you sure you're testing it correctly? For sure I remember blue is always ground. It should correspond to pin 1.

I just thought of something-I think I might have all the numbers reversed on the plug when I'm looking at it. So what I'm thinking is pin 1 would be on the other side and actually pin 13...

I'm going to go back and look again...

OK I've figured out the problem...I'm an idiot.

I am looking at the front side of the D Sub connector and counting from left to right pin 1,2,3,4, etc...

When counting from left to right, one has to look at the BACK of the connector!

So now the red wire is connected to pin 21, just as it should be.

I feel stupid but at least I know how to move on now and get this sucker wired!  :-[

We don't currently have a pin-out diagram for the harness, but we have one under development and I think (no promises) that it should be ready in the next week or two.
