I am in the process of putting my aircraft back together after paint. With a view to the heated pitot SB, I'm guessing it would be prudent to delay re-fitting as it is all likely to have to come out again for mod/replacement? It's just that I have the wing off, upside down at the moment and fitting would be a lot easier now than lying on my back later!

We do not currently have an estimate for when we will have a replacement pitot, so assuming you want to fly your plane in the next month, I would re-assemble it as is.

Sadly, it is going to be a lot longer than a month until I can fly it, so I'll plan on leaving it off for the time boing and see what develops.

Hi Carl - We don't have an update yet. The engineering team is working hard on the design and test here, though! Make sure you're subscribed to the newsletter and/or preflight brief though - that's where our announcements generally hit first.

Sorry to dredge this up again -

Do you guys know if the replacement will work with an existing heater control box, or will it require replacing the whole shebang? I'm trying to determine how temporarily to mount the controller...

Thanks!

Without being able to make a 100% promise until testing is done:

We expect that it will use the current control box with no modifications. Current testing is in that configuration.

Nothing to add yet, but we're getting closer every day. I should add that we generally try not to estimate dates anymore, period, before we get pretty close. Despite the fact that we have a pretty sound project and product methodology these days, it's also true that when you're doing the sort of products we make, where safety and integrity are paramount, we sometimes learn things while testing and developing that cause us to make adjustments and refine a design. That causes the schedule to be a little less certain until we get pretty close to done with some projects. We really don't like going through a cycle of guessing at dates, no matter how honest those guesses might be, and then later pushing them out days, weeks, or months. From past experience we've learned that you, our customers, hear those honest self-assessments as missed expectations, even when we try to be as transparent as possible. So although I know everyone is anxious for our improved design, we don't set expectations before we're very confident we can meet them.

Big update here, including a replacement program for any of you that currently have our Heated AOA/Pitot Probe. See this thread for more details.
