There isn't anything in the software configuration that would cause the transponder to go offline after it was previously working. So for that, definitely look at power wiring, switch configuration, breakers and fuses.
v14 will definitely translate the n-number to the correct hex-code, but only at the moment you enter the n-number during configuration. So definitely check that.
But, since there is uncertainty about the configuration, you should probably go through the transponder and ADS-B Out installation sections of the SkyView installation guide to see if other things are possibly mis-configured.
