Hi All,

I have an aircraft built by a factory and they have preconfigured two timer gauges on the skyview EMS page. There is Flight time and HOBBS. They are both increasing but currently HOBBS is ahead of Flight time. Does anyone know what flight time is measuring (is it total time in flight for eg?) or what HOBBS would be measuring (total engine running time?).

Many thanks

Josh

Josh:

From the Dynon Avionics SkyView Pilot's User Guide, Rev Q, Page 5-6:

The Air Timer - labeled AIR TIME when displayed on an Engine Page - runs any time SkyView determines the aircraft is in flight. SkyView uses the presence of significant airspeed or GPS speed to decide whether the aircraft is flying. Resets as SkyView detects that the aircraft has transition to “in the air” This time is also optionally used to calculate the Switch Fuel Tank Reminder.

Hobbs Time - labeled HOBBS when displayed on an Engine Page - is a simple timer that runs whenever the oil pressure is above 15 PSI or the engine is above 200 RPM. It essentially runs when the engine does.

(FLIGHT TIME was renamed AIR TIME in v10.0 software.)

Many thanks. I assume what is labelled flight time will probably be the total air timer? Or could this be tach time? There was a time when flight time was ahead of hobbs, how could this be?

One other question, what is the purpose of using the fuel computer, when there is a level detector in the fuel tank? Can I ignore the fuel computer entirely or do I have to reset it before every flight?

Thanks again

Also from the Dynon Avionics SkyView Pilot's User Guide, Rev Q, Page 5-6:

The Total Air Timer - labeled AIR TOTAL when displayed on an Engine Page - runs any time that SkyView determines that the aircraft is in flight. SkyView uses the presence of significant airspeed or GPS speed to decide whether the aircraft is flying. This timer can only be reset or adjusted in the Aircraft Information menu within SkyView Setup. See the SkyView System Installation Guide for information about using SkyView’s Setup Menu.

It's unusual that FLIGHT TIME / AIR TIME would be greater than HOBBS TIME, but HOBBS time can be changed, so perhaps it was set manually.

Fuel computer is used for a variety of useful calculations related to fuel that can be displayed. Those are detailed in the Pilot's User Guide beginning on Page 5-6.
