What does the D180 reference on the Rotax engine to run the hobbs meter ? Is this explained anywhere in the documentation for the D180 ?

Yes it's there under heading of Tachometer - but please do us the courtesy of reading the manual first before asking questions.

If you don't understand what is written then that is acceptable. :)

Sorry I didn't see your reply when it was posted. I didn't see the Hobbs info while reading through the manual when I was skipping back and forth referencing pages listed on the DB37 pin assignment page, trying to figure out what I had to connect.
Obviously I have the wrong idea also, of what a forum is for. I still haven't memorized the documentation, so I assume I'm not suppose to ask about something missing or that I can't find, or even that I may have forgotten.
I guess those experts that say you only retain 25% of what you are taught or read, wasn't referring to Australian experts!
