Definitely start with the sensitivity settings, and follow the Flight Tuning guide. The autopilot performance is built on how well you set those. You want the aircraft chevrons to tuck right into the flight director chevrons and stay with it smoothly during most of the IAS change (as it approaches the airspeed you set, it will deviate so that it does not overshoot. Ignore that part).
If your plane is like mine, you will need to increase the sensitivities a little. When I went too far, my airplane chevrons got out ahead of the flight director. You don’t want that. My RV10 has pitch sensitivities of 13 and 15 for low and high.
