Hi All,
How far should the ADAHRS unit be installed away from the heated pitot tube? I assume that the heated probe element causes some kind of magnetic field when energized so there should be a minimum distance.
Alternately, how far from the ADAHRS can the pitot tube be installed?
I ask because I am installing these components into a Velocity airplane and it seems that the only magnetically quiet location for the ADAHRS (or V-MAG for that matter) would be the tip of the "strake". The strake is the delta shaped inner wing section that the long skinny wing extensions mount up against...in other words, the outboard end of the strake is about half wing span away from the fuselage.
It would be ideal to mount the pitot tube and the ADAHRS close together on the pilot side strake end however if that presents a magnetic interference problem then I could mount the pilot tube on the pilot side strake end and then mount the ADAHRS on the copilot side strake end and these units would end up being about 12 lineal feet apart so the question in this instance is how far can the two units be separated that would allow the pitot/static air pressures to "flow" through the tubes?
In either case I would like to have an alternate static port valve mounted on the instrument panel and if the ADAHRS unit was mounted out on the strake then the distance for the alternate static tube would be about 21 lineal feet.
To mitigate the "flow" issues with a long run I could utilize a wider diameter hose.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
THANKS!!!
