How To Limit Layout Options

Since I have two screens I want the PFD screen Layout button to toggle between only following two options:
-PFD 50% /EMS 50% for TO and Landings
-PFD 80% /EMS 20% for enroute cruising (decluttered EMS screen)

Now the layout button will toggles through four options:
-PFD 50% /EMS 50%
-PFD 80% /EMS 20%
-EMS 50% /PFD 50%
-EMS 20% / PFD 80%

So it would be most convenient to have to make only one click after takeoff for climb and cruise and then one click before landing as opposed to one click after takeoff and then 3 clicks right before landing.

I cannot seem to find in the manuals any information on limiting these options. Any help would be appreciated.

THANKS!!!

Interesting question. The best I can do for now is confirm that this is how it operates, and that there is no way to limit the options in the rotation.

or you could use the TO & Landing setup on the main screen & have the other setup for cruise - then press the SWAP button when in cruise & do the same again for the landing phase ;)

That is exactly how I use my dual display Skyview.

1 - Set up the Pilot display with PFD and MAP page (50/50)
2 - Set up the Co-Pilot display with PFD and EMS page (50/50)

Before engine start, press the SWAP button so the Pilot display has PFD and EMS pages (50/50) while Co-Pilot display has PFD and MAP (50/50). Now the needed information for engine start, taxi, engine run up and takeoff is displayed in front of the pilot. At this point the Pilot really needs EMS page information and doesn't really need MAP page information.

After takeoff just hit the SWAP button and now it looks like the EMS page was replaced by the MAP page for the Pilot while the MAP page was replaced with the EMS page for the Co-Pilot. Both displays keep the PFD in the same location and it looks like it never moved.

Whenever you want to look at an engine parameter in flight, just hit the SWAP button and the EMS page replaces the MAP page without affecting the PFD page. Hit the SWAP button again and the MAP page replaces the EMS page again without affecting the PFD page.

Before landing, press the SWAP button so the Pilot display has PFD and EMS pages (50/50) while Co-Pilot display has PFD and MAP (50/50). Now the needed information for landing, taxi and engine shut down is displayed in front of the pilot. At this point the Pilot doesn't really need MAP page information anymore and has good shutdown information on the EMS page.

AND it gives you a "pseudo portrait layout" in a side by side format. It works really well for me.

Jakej and Galin,

Very cleaver...great idea!!!

If Dynon had a the capability to have the EMS page displayed as a 40 % of the screen that would be ideal (hint for new feature).

I find that the 50 percent page provides way too much space for my needs however since I want the EGT row to be near the top and the CHT ro below that I am pretty much forced to have the 50 % display to show items such as gear and door opened.

The 20 % page on the other hand is too small for everything so therefor on the 20% page I deleted a number of the info/sensors that are not really needed in cruise like door open and gear contacts, used the combined EGT/CHT and reduced the dial depictions to simple numerical readouts.

I learned from a previous post that there is really no intrinsic benefit for having two attitude indicator displayed at the same time because they both will use the same ADAHRS pitch/bank anyway and it will kick out disagreement warnings is one acts up so it seems beneficial to me to have the PFd show as big of a attitude reference as possible and then have the MFD show a huge map.

If there was a 40% EMS page at least my PDF could be larger and show all of the pretty colorful mountains and such.

Dang...back in the day all I needed to fly around the country was a paper sectional chart, a wrist watch, and an oil pressure gauge...now with all of this fancy stuff I "need" much more...except I don't need the watch because my phone does that.

The swap idea for a single screen is a good one. I think this was discussed before. It was pointed out that some of the early products from Vertical Power would change the display depending on the current flight mode. While everyone has their preference, I like to have a familiar display in front of me all the time although I never seen to know where to look when I get an alarm.

I fly with a 40/40/20 layout on my single SV D1000 in all flight modes. I like to monitor temps and fuel burn in cruise. I hand coded the EMS to maximize the space and get everything I needed on the single display. The need vs want is a good rule to use when prioritizing. I have a few CONTACT items that aren't displayed and very few INFO items that are displayed.. Sometimes an audio warning is more attention grabbing then a red dot on the screen. Even if it's not displayed, you'll get an audio message and the warning will come up in the message area displaying the condition that caused it. So do you really need the Canopy contact displayed all the time.

Some label only items can be displayed over other widgets. I put the %power and ROP/LOP labels over top the MAP widget. There was just a lot of blank space there anyhow. Some arc widgets can also be nested together to save room. The EGT/CHT widget takes up a lot of room. You can squeeze it horizontally and fit a vertical bar widget next to it. Just don't squeeze it so much the temp numbers don't fit.

Removing the label name or units from a widget reduces it's size. The units spell out the function of the widget in some cases. AMPS, RPM, MAP and VOLTS are good candidates.

A lot of information is redundant. I really don't need to see gals used/remaining, etc. My fuel gauges are pretty accurate and Range is very useful. It wraps all those calculations about speed/distance/time/fuel remaining into a quick glance at range to let me know if my planning is working.

We know you’re the “guru” when it comes to organising the screens & widgets but getting the wind vectors to give you those g/speeds is another level again [ch128514][ch128514][ch128514]

mmarien,

I really like your EMS screen layout. Very clever how you integrated the MP and RPM with different sizes with the other info items inside the arc. Nice work and thanks for the advice

Dynon suggested it before but I didn't clue in until a couple days ago. If you want the nested MAP/RPM gauges you can easily import them into your ENGINE display. Copy the lines below, save them as a TXT file with the extension .DFG. In Skyview press buttons 7 and 8 to get to the setup and load the file. If the load works it will insert the gauges into your 20% layout. Nothing else is disturbed.

Code:
ems_display={
      Layout_20={
            c37_p26={
                  type=WIDGET_ARC_VAL_CENTER
                  x_offset=-3
                  y_offset=74
                  width=40
                  height=40
                  params=240
                  params=190
                  params=2
                  }
            c37_p33/35_v2={
                  type=WIDGET_ARC_VAL_CENTER
                  x_offset=17.5
                  y_offset=72
                  width=30
                  height=30
                  params=260
                  params=130
                  params=2
                  }
            }
      }

If you want them in a different ENGINE layout change the Layout_20 to Layout_50 or Layout_100.

Once they are loaded, you can move them around. But if you change the style or size they will revert to Dynon defaults. If you need to change the size, you can hand tweak the height and width in the TXT file and reload them.

As much as I have packed onto my 20% screen I needed room of one more gauge. I was fiddling with the gauges and found a way to make more room. Compare the oil gauges to the previous screen above. I just have to shorten the MAIN fuel gauge and I have a big blank space.

I would *kill* for a tool that I could use on my computer to edit these graphically...drag and drop functionality, etc.

I also stick with the single layout w 20% for EMS and gained some space switching from round dials to the straight bars,  Hobbs in smallest font etc.
