Hello everyone!

I am installing a D180 and 496. My HS34 has been b/o for months and looks like it might ship soon. I am still unclear about what HS34 functionality will be enabled using only the 496 (i.e. does it actually talk back to the 496 on its serial line, can it drive bugs or course indicators on the 496, etc.). Could someone at Dynon please tell me what functions would be enabled (if it's been already covered, sorry, haven't found it)?

Thanks

If all you are hooking to your HS34 is a 496, the only thing you'll really get is voice alerts and the barometer knob. There's nothing extra the HS34 can do with a 496 that the serial port on the EFIS can't do by itself.

The HS34's primary purpose was to get us ARINC-429 and analog connections for NAV radios and IFR certified GPS units.

Thanks for the prompt reply! I didn't think the 496 would do anything without ARINC.

In fact it's the opposite. The 496 has ONLY serial output and no ARINC-429 at all. That's why it can work even without the HS34.
