I am installing a D100,D120 HS34 and AP74 with a Garmin 496 on serial 2. I have powered them up and everything works good so far execept that the HSI course has to be set by the HS 34 course knob. The bearing pointer points to the correct course and the deviation works correct. The garmin is set to aviation in/ nema out at 9600 baud. What am I missing??

Under Advanced NMEA setup (highlight the NMEA format of your choosing, then hit menu), make sure that data rate is set to normal, not fast.

Pile on question:

Reference EFIS-D100 Pilot User Guide p 6-8

I have a GNS 430W connected via arinc to the HS34 with an AP74.  When I select nav source GPS1 (the 430W) and enter a "direct to" waypoint, I get the pink CDI, but I do not get the yellow bearing indicator on the HSI.

Also, when I am in NAV1 (from the 430W) and tuned to a VOR, I dont get a bearing pointer there either.  I get only the green CDI.

What are the requirements to get bearing pointer information?

Thanks for your help!

You must press the BRG SRC button on your HS34 to show bearings. Since you have more than one bearing source, when you press this the BRG indicator on the screen will highlight and then you turn the value knob to select the one you want.

Page 6-6 of the pilot user guide covers this.

Thank you for your help! However, when I push bearing source, nothing changes when I rotate the value knob.

Could you confirm that with my setup (GNS 430W/HS34/AP74/EFISD100) that I should only have connected the 430W to the HS34 via ARINC?

If that is the case (assuming I have built the wiring harness correctly), do you have a list of settings that I should have configured on the 430 and on the EFIS/HS34 to enable the bearing pointer?

I'm afraid that I am missing some setting as opposed to being mis wired.

Thanks for your help!

Dynon,

I found the following link: http://wiki.dynonavionics.com/Garmin_430/530_Wiring

And it says that I need ONLY ARINC from the 430 to the HS34. I have wired the HS34 for a second handheld GPS using serial connection. Would that prevent me from getting the bearing to indications on the HSI?

Thanks!

Nope, that should be OK, and when you hit NAVSRC its should cycle through the different GPS and NAV souces - a total of 2 GPS and 1 NAV in your case, it sounds like.

When you press the BRG SRC button, does anything at all happen on the HSI screen? Does the top bearing line highlight? Note that it only stays selected for a few seconds, and then the value knob reverts back to its default behavior. Also, does the value knob work to change other things like the bugs?

Well, I tried pushing the bearing source button again and i got the cursor and was able to change the source. SO I am able to get the bearing pointers.

I didnt change anything in my setup, so I was either goofing it up or the button was sticking in some way.

Regardless, I am in business and everything works as advertised by Dynon.

Thanks for your help! Sorry to waste your time!
