I've got my skyview wired up on the bench and have the SV-250 GPS connected as well as a Garmin 396 connected to serial port 1 and in setup GPS 1. I have the SV-250 set up as POS 2. When I set the germin to navigate to an airport it comes up on the HSI as a nav source but I can't get it to show up as an HSI with the center needle. If I navigate with the skyview system using the mapping software the HSI shows the course as GPS 0 and has the center needle in the HSI. The question is how can I get the HSI to show the Garmin course in the HSI as GPS 0. I guess I'm not understanding how it's supposed to work.

Richard, I'm going on some memory here but a couple of suggestions to try.

1. the recommendation is SV-250-GPS should be wired to serial 5. You can name it what you want. I configured it to be GPS 0. It sounds like you have the SV GPS working

2. If you set up the 396 to be connected to serial port 1 and GPS 1, ok. You need to set brg 1 or 2, or Nav Source set to GPS 1. All good.
3. How did you configure the Garmin 396 to communicate? I believe you have to set the 396 to NMEA or NMEA & VHF Out, then go into the Advanced setttings and make sure it is set to "Normal"

Once you have the 396 setup, activate a flight plan and it will show up on the HSI. It will even show glideslope/descent information just like the 396 does on the screen.

Bear,

Thanks for your reply. I set the 396 up as you stated but I didn't go to the advanced settings and make that change. I'll try that tonight. Thanks again.

Bear,

You were right. I had to set the garmin advanced settings to normal. It was on fast. Once I did that I get two HSIs. One for the garmin route and one for the SKyview gps. It's weird because the manual says you get one at GPS 0 only. Even thought I have the garmin at GPS 1 and the Skyview gps at POS 2 I still get the Skyview first on the HSI as GPS 0 and the Garmin at GPS 1. But thats fine it works well. I can get two different sources for two HSIs, nice.

The SkyView Navigation Mapping Software generated CDI is always GPS 0.

You can actually get three (3) indicators. Brg 1, Brg 2, and Nav Source. So I could have nav info from GPS 0, GPS 1, and NAV 1 in my system since I have the SV GPS, the garmin 496, and SL30.

Glad it helped.
