It's nice to have physical knobs dedicated to a task like the SV-KNOB-PANEL and SV-AP-PANEL for things that get constant use. On the other hand they take up a lot of sometimes scarce panel space. We've all become accustom to the touch screen that we have on our smart phones. It would be nice to have a programmable touch screen input panel about that size that can be placed on the console within easy reach of a resting hand.
The touch screen should be programmable so that the user can place the icons for his favorite functions on the input panel for easy access. Selecting an icon would replace the screen with the function interface just like an app takes over the screen on a smart phone.
Some functions I would place there are:
Remote xponder interface.
Remote Radio interface.
Baro - tap the icon and type in the pressure.
Pitch change - tap the icon and type in the altitude. Use a slider to adjust the VS up or down.
Flight planning (NRST) wouldn't obscure half the SV display
Some things like HDG work better with a knob but a small touch input panel with half a dozen icons could offer lots of customization without adding a new panel for every function.
And sorry, NO I wouldn't support placing a list of engine parameters along the edge of the little screen.
