I have a surefly on order and will be installing as soon as it arrives in a few weeks. With the EMS 220, I need a to figure something out regarding tach signal. The simplest route is using the surefly tach 2 signal converter. Was wondering if anyone used the magnetic sender off the tach drive like the UMA t1a3-4.

Yes!

That is exactly what I used and it works perfect! You’ll need to run power and ground to the sender as well as the signal wire into the EMS. I can’t remember off the top of my head what the “pulses per rev” setting is in the sensor config, but it’s easy to find I can look it up if/when you’re to that point (on a Cont. O-470).

Interesting! was told by someone at Dynon it had to come off the magneto an not the tach drive. Is there any reason you decided to go the tach drive route as opposed to the module from surefly? Unfortunately I've got a Lycoming io540, where do you find the pulses per revolution? I know it's 2 coming off the magneto with a hall effect sensor. Just dont know if that value would change coming off the tach drive.

Simplicity. It was easier for me to install the tach sender and run the wires than to add the signal generator and figure out that wiring. The sender, T1A3-4, the -4 indicates 4 revs per pulse and your tach drive [most likely] is 2 turns per 1 engine rotation, so program the Dynon for two pulses per engine revolution (if memory serves me correctly, lol. I’ll need to check my sensor configuration screen to verify).

Good information in the reviews for the sender: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/cata...sNNJVJWrdsfAFuCVSh5xX5ROTnRgdHcQaAtYzEALw_wcB

Connect the UMA signal wire to pin 32 (Standard RPM input Left) on the EMS-220.
