Installing two E-Mags

I'm installing a set of E-Mags. They are on the way and I'm running the wiring this weekend. I currently have two Slick mags installed and wired to my Dynon Skyview EMS. There is a tach output from the E-Mags. Has anyone installed the E-Mags and wired to a Skyview? Should I take the tach output from the E-Mags and go directly to the Skyview EMS? Do I need the resistors used with the slick mags? I also see the tach output is two pulses per rev. I'm thinking that is the same as the slicks were.

I have dual P-Mags. I connected pin 6 of the P-Mags to Skyview EMS pins 32/34 without resistors. You really only need one connection as the tach signal from the P-Mag doesn't quit when you check the mags. The signal is normally two pulses per revolution but you can change that to one with the EICAD software or configure Skyview to read two pulses per minute.

Nice choice of ignition. I've had mine for 400+ hours without a problem.

Murray, Thanks so much for the response. Sounds too easy, I never liked those resistors in line. What did you do with the ignition switch? Are you using a key switch or toggles? I was going to use three position toggles for off-on-powered, but they are telling me not to do it that way. Your supposed to be able to power it with the p lead grounded, for test purposes.

Richard,

For the p-Mag I used a locking toggle switch to turn it on/off. The 5 amp pull breaker provides the means to turn off aircraft power for the periodic check to make sure the p-Mag generator is working.

Agree that the three way toggle you describe is not the way to go.

600 trouble free hours on dual p-Mags in an RV-8A. Now waiting for Brad to send me the six cylinder version for the RV-10.

No need to connect a tach wire from each P-mag as a tach signal will be read regardless. Also, If you have a VP- X system, there is no need to have separate power switches ( more points of failure) as you can 'test' the power function of the P-Mags by switching bus power via the VP-X menu in the Skyview.

I agree with Jake about the power source. In addition, the P-Mags need to be on when the engine shuts down as it logs data internally (page 22 of manual) so mine come on (pin 5) with the master switch. For the "will they run without ship power" I use VP-X or you can just pull the breaker. I use toggle switches (pin 4) to kill the P-Mag for the mag test.

I just helped my brother with his panel redo. The toggle switches are to do the mag test during run up.
