Just wondering what other people think about the desirability of. a terrain avoidance warning is both desirable and doable in the Skyview system?

When I was flying out of an airport that had mountains close-in on two sides, the terrain awareness feature (of a Garmin unit) was annoying. I only flew during the day in VFR conditions, so I turned it off. If I flew at night or in IFR conditions, I think the feature would be more helpful than annoying.

Terrain aural alerts are a double edged sword. I fly with them from a Garmin 495. 98% of the time, I am aware of the obstacles and the warning is a nuisance. There has been once or twice that the warning made me aware of a tower that I didn’t have in my attention until the alert went off and I started scanning for why. I don’t see the aural alerts as a necessity, but keep them on since they are available. I never ignore them, just confirm the terrain or obstacle visually.
