I was wondering if it is possible to load a custom chart/plate for viewing in flight. I fly aerobatics and we typically have sequences that we present on our panel usually in the paper form I have now changed over to using my iPad and Foreflight to display them. Does the HDX or standard Skyview have an option for this or some kind of tricky work around? I have asked the aerobatic community and their solution for the both the Garmin G3X and Dynon Skyview is make a perimeter bracket and mount a binder clip so that they can temp mount a sequence card to cover half of the display which seems silly given all the tech we have at our finger tips.

The plates are just images if you look at the data in the usb stick. I’m sure this isn’t legal but I’ve made backups to charts and added notes using ms paint...

Thinking about this more if you copy a chart and edit the definition with the new name and coords that should work too. Would probably get wiped out on chart updates though.

Yeah I was thinking I could trick it by doing that. I think I would have to do this every time updated charts to keep it. Sounds clunky but doable.

Yeah. I think if you mark up a existing plate it will stay that way until that specific plate is updated. Which isn’t very often.

if you create a new plate and definition the plate should stay but you will have to redo the definition every time it gets updated. And I’m not sure how often that is but I’d bet it’s reasonably often.

Chris,

Can you tell me what program you can edit them in please? Mine are output by EasyVFR and have a 'pfmsmap2' extension. I've changed that to '.png' but I can't any of my graphics editors to open it. I've also tried Windows 10 MS Paint.

Thanks

Chris C and Dynon,

Would one of these altered charts still geo-reference A/C position, assuming it geo- referenced before alteration?

Would that answer change if the chart was "new", that is, not in the original database?

I ask, because, where we live, we have a "private" approach. This approach is fully in the GPS navigator, but the depiction is only on paper (given to each authorized user by the approach owner). I would like to create a png for the new chart, use it in the Dynon, and have it be geo-referenced.

The charts use a chart ID number and are referenced in Charts.txt. Adding a chart is much more complicated than finding one and editing it. You need to add the entry in Charts.txt, and add all of the appropriate information. You then also need to add a record.
