Please Dynon, tell us RV-12 drivers what is going on. Why hasn't the fix been released to us? Who is dragging their feet, you guys or Van's? Its been a month since you told us we could expect to be able to try the fix "soon." Do you need a beta tester? If so I volunteer. At least give us an update on the situation.

Van's can't do anything with the firmware until we make it official, as it's technically still a beta release, not a standard firmware release. It's only on our forum for now, not on our normal downloads page.

So, if there's any delay right now, it us. It's tricky since we need to blend their settings with our new software, so we can't just make a beta version of the RV-12 setup easily for people to try. Plus, technically for an S-LSA, you can't run beta software. We're aware that many of you are E-LSA, but we need to respect Van's requirements for the S-LSA environment.

We've got a lot going on, and we're doing our best. It's not forgotten.

Thanks for the update, but I don't understand the S-LSA issue. There is only ONE RV-12 S-LSA, and it belongs to the factory. So we are holding this up for ONE airplane? Why not release the fix to the field, and just don't install on the factory plane until its "official". Wouldn't you like to get some experience with this fix from the field sooner instead of later? As a D-180 customer I hate to say it but I'm beginning to feel like an orphan. This has been going on for a ridiculously long time.

Peter - on the 296, you definitely have an active flight plan or direct-to when you're testing? And is the HSI page on the Dynon is showing the GPS source with the magenta CDI?

yes, I have double checked this. With the Garmin Aera 500 and Pilot III, all HDG TRK and NAV sources work. With the GPSMAP296, only the HDG and TRK work. The TRK shows magenta AP TRK-ALT in the main  screen and all functions of CDI screen work OK. NAV does not work.

Peter,
Do you have the NMEA out in the 29 set to "NORMAL" not "FAST" in advanced setup? If it's "FAST" we can't get a HSI from it.

There's another setting that you can choose - I think it's NMEA in / VHF out, that will let you select the baud rate, and also the normal/fast setting in the advanced setup (this is not the baud rate).

How close is Dynon to releasing the D100 auto pilot software upgrade? Are we days, weeks or months out? I'd rather not install the betaware if we are close to a production release.

Probably weeks. Not days, and it really shouldn't be months. It's literally our TOP priority here, but, just days after a major launch we're in the middle of switching contexts.

Just a quick note that the final 5.5 software has been released. This update fixes the AP NAVSRC lost messages, a couple of other very minor AP annoyances, and Rotax oil temp fluctuations. See the release notes on the download page for the nitty gritty. There are no new features in this release. This release does not apply to D6/D60 (the firmware for those products is unchanged). You can grab the update at http://www.dynonavionics.com/docs/support_software.html.

One last note - if you have an RV-12, you need a special file that Vans deploys that allows an update to the software. We're working with Vans to get that file out as soon as they're able to - they're a bit bandwidth limited at the moment on the engineering side.
