My map display goes black for a second or two. A red question mark appears on the plane display. My software is up to date to the latest version. I got a new D1000 touch last April

That means your GPS is losing lock. This could be due to a bad ground or power wire to the GPS, a bad location where it can't see the sky well or has interference, or a bad GPS module.

What kind of plane and where is the GPS antenna located?

I have a Pipistrel Sinus, all carbon fiber fuselage. The GPS antenna is located on the top of the fusaleg with unobstructed view to the sky.

I have dual skyview D700's paired with a Garmin 430 in an RV7. They have done the same thing since new-2&1/2 yrs. I've never been able to solve the problem.
