Map North Up - Plane symbol centered- wasted space

SkyView Touch is a great system, no doubt. Love it. But here is a suggestion to improve it. If you fly Track up you see a large portion of airspace etc. ahead. But with North up you are centered on the screen. And that means half of the screen is behind you. Useless. Wasted. I would like to see the airplane symbol in one of about eight positions around the center, depending on your current track, so that you see more airspace ahead.
Second suggestion: In panning mode there is no depiction of the track if I change the track via a knob. Impossible to zoom a corner of some airspace and to adjust the track to go sharply around.

Not so.
If your aircraft is equipped with a fully functioning ADS-B, that airspace behind you may depict traffic which may be a threat to you, such as a fast mover, approaching from the rear.

Never experienced that. Mid airs from behind are quite rare. The map screen is for navigation primarily and, btw, the alert function is still active.

Not wasted space.
If you choose not to use it, that is your problem.
Many of us find that depiction very useful. We are interested in all airborne traffic around us, not just in front. We also find it very useful, for a more complete airport depiction, during ground taxi operations.

Any examples of other systems working the way you would like with north up? It's always helpful to see how others do it in considering how we'd do it on SkyView.

Are you expecting it to hop and re-draw the whole map and aircraft location as you transition from 44 to 45 degrees or did you have something smoother in mind? I'm concerned the large screen changes every 15 seconds in a standard rate turn would be distracting, and hard to follow as you'd have to re-find the aircraft icon. Same issue when you just glance down at the map- you'd have to find the icon every time in one of 8 places to understand the map, rather than being able to assume where the plane is.

Hello support team,
my idea is that the 8 sectors around the center greatly overlap, i.e. each sector has 60 degrees or more, not only 45. That should garantee that the aircraft symbol would not hop back immediately. It only hops when leaving the current sector. But this suggestion is for touch and non-touch screens. On some other "pure touch" systems it is allowed to move the aircraft symbol freely around.
You ask for an example. I have attached two pics from other nav. software. Both systems are made for touch screens. In each one you can freely move around the symbol and put it on a location you like. It stays there until moved again or when restarted.
On the skyview we have the panning mode whenever you touch and move a finger. Thats ok. But when you touch the aircraft symbol you should not switch to panning mode but to "aircraft symbol relocation" mode.
But the first idea with 8 sectors should be most "easily" be intergated into your system and would be totally fine.
Thanks for considering.

forgot to mention that when circling the aircraft symbol rotates, not the chart. We are in North up mode. I'll check it tomorrow :)

Nah, not wasted space. Dynon has it right. No need to change it.

If Dynon has it right as you say, i.e. centered airplane symbol in North-up mode, what is the logic for putting it off-centered in track-up mode? It should be centered likewise. Pls. explain.

Hello,

I asked this question in 2013..
see the post here:

It's a pity that we are at the same point 4 years later.

Fortunately, with the touch screen you can now move the plane icon manually on the screen and place it where you want. But you are required to repeat the operation as the aircraft moves forward.

As I stated above, in panning mode there is no depiction of the track if I change the track via a knob. So panning and zooming in / out is possible but the problem remains that I can't precisely set the track for larger distances.

BTW: I'm still waiting for the logic to center the aircraft symbol North up but to de-center it when Track up. Maybe there is no logic ;D

If the symbol would move automatically during panning mode and if we would see a track line when turning the knob that would be fine.

Most often Dynon amazes me with it bold innovations, but sometimes also we can be annoyed by these easy-to-fulfill demands that would increase the ease and safety of flights and for which Dynon turns a deaf ear.

A "deaf ear?"
Maybe those "easy-to-fulfill demands" are not so easy.
Let's not forget, Dynon, as most other companies, does not have unlimited resources.

Wouldn't say Dynon has a deaf ear. There may be incompatibilties with panning mode features or something else. We should be happy with Dynons free of charge update service. That's great. It is their decision what fits and what doesn't.

You can't please everyone.

Dynon does an amazing job of fitting their product to please as many people as possible, but you can never please everyone, there will always be someone who sees some aspect of the system differently and will not be satisfied. No one is required to buy Dynon products, if another company's product fits your needs better, then you need to purchase that other product.

Alternatively, you could always start your own avionics company and show them how to do it...
