Mexican / Central Am. plates/diagrams available

In case anyone missed our email and blog entry, a Seattle Avionics ChartData sub now includes airport diagrams, approach plates, SIDs, STARs, etc. for Mexico and Central America for no additional charge (the Bahamas was also added recently if you missed that, too).  Central America is defined here as Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Belize.  An update to the ChartData Manager is required but should automatically update itself.  You will also need Jepp or Pocket FMS digital data to have access to those airports (that is, they are not included in the FAA digital download). So how do I go about downloading this data? Does this mean I have to download the data from Chart Manager as Pocket FMS not as Dynon Skyview?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Yes the data gets downloaded automatically by the ChartData Manager, just like any other plate/diagram. However, you won't even see the airports listed in SkyView if you're just using the generic FAA database. You'd have to load either Jepp or Pocket FMS data to see the airports (the plates/diagrams are there regardless but you can't enter the apt ident into SkyView w/ the FAA database).

Jepp, PocketFMS, and the Dynon-provided files on our site are digital databases of airports, airspace, and other navaids. Seattle Avionics ChartData is digital versions of the traditional "paper" products like plates, airport diagrams, and the paper VFR and IFR charts. They're complementary. So what Steve is saying is that they now have airport diagrams, approach plates, SIDs, STARs for some additional countries. If you have a Seattle Avionics subscription, you can use their PC-based ChartData Manager to load them to a USB memory stick. Then, once you're at the aircraft, a stick remains connected to each of your SkyView displays and uses it as a drive that it reads those charts off of as you access them in SkyView. In contrast, the digital Jepp, PocketFMS, and Dynon digital databases are loaded onto the displays themselves.

I have a SA subscription and download data on to a USB stick using the SkyView option using their PC based Chart Data Manager. But Chart Data Manager does not give any option to download the additional country data. Nor is there any option for PocketFMS. So my question is how do I access this additional country data and how do I view them on my SkyView display?

You may need to update the chartdata manager. I think it normally updates itself, but here's a link to the post where they describe both the new data offering and a link to the latest version of the manager.

You need the newer version of the ChartData Manager so the DM knows how to copy the files to different folders for the different countries. The data itself is downloaded even by the old version, it just didn't know how to put the files in the right place. There are no additional options to select because all plates/airport diagrams that have changed are always downloaded without regard to state or, now, country. The Sectional, IFR Low, and IFR High map tiles, by contrast are potentially very large so are selectable by state/country.

OK. I manually updated DM. I then had it check for DYNON SkyView ChartData and it shows green dots on the USB drive(s) so I assume the data is there. Now how do I get it to display the plates/airport diagrams on the SkyView screen in the airplane?. :-?

Same as for any US airport -- enter an ident or whatever. No difference but your unit must be loaded w/ either the Jepp or PocketFMS database, not the normal FAA one that Dynon provides.

OK. So are these (Jepp or Pocket FMS databases) provided by SA via DM or are they a separate subscription?

Jepp (Jeppesen) and PocketFMS are companies not related to Seattle Avionics. We don't sell their data so I'm not sure how one buys their data for SkyView. I'd probably contact Dynon or look on the Dynon website or Google it. Sorry I can't help more.

I have a current Seattle Avionics database and subscription. I have a current Pocket FMS subscription and have downloaded the 2 files that are compatible with Dynon SV. I loaded them into my SV displays. I can now enter Mexican airports/VOR's/intersections into SV. I get airport info but I cannot see any diagrams or procedures. I know that the diagrams/procedures are in the Seattle Avionics database because I can see them with I look at the files on the Memory stick.
What I am I doing wrong?
