Just installed the 2 axis autopilot w/ AP74 in my RV7. Everything works great, having no problems...Rock solid...

Received my cable today to connect my AVMAP IV to the dynon. Again no problems. HSI screen shows all of the GPS data, but I cannot make the AP engage in NAV mode. wondering if anybody has any ideas.

A few things need to be true for NAV mode to work. All of the GPS data needs to be available, including the CDI (which you only get when you have an active waypont) . So that's going to be the first thing to confirm - do you have an active waypoint? If so, can you post a picture of what you're seeing on your HSI screen?

Also, make sure your AVMAP is running the latest firmware version and set to output "processed" data.

I'm suspect to the firmware. I have an active waypoint with a CDI on the GPS, but no CDI shows on the HSI or EFIS. I paid to update my AVMAP card when I ordered the cable, but am having to wait till Monday for the Jeppeson data...(if you're familiar with AVMAP updates you understand). I had to reload my old firmware version to be able to navigate to a Jeppeson waypoint, and this is where I am. I'll wait till Monday and reload the new software and post the results.

I have to say, that after only 2hours of A/P testing on my RV, I am very pleased. I would like to have the ability to engage the A/P in a climb or desent, and it hold that Vertical speed or angle....maybe I can, but have missed that in the manual. Its a little clumsy engaging the A/P on a missed approach, and having it try to level off while you dial in the  hold altitude. Plese let me know if I'm missing something here.

Thanks again

When 5.1 comes out, you'll be able to set up the autopilot with a truly pre-selected altitude, so that it doesn't immediately try to level you when you engage. For now, though, what you've observed is correct.

Any idea on the approximate release date of 5.1?

Also, will I be able to run the D180 on its current version, and have the D100 /HS34/AP74/servo network all updated to the latest software, and yet still all on the DSAB network.

I want to keep the version of the D180 on a known stable platform as it is a backup EFIS only and primary use is the EMS functions. Not that I do not trust the new releases...... but...well we all know how it goes!

DB :)

We expect 5.1 to be out by the end of the month.

All units on the DSAB network must be at the same firmware version.

Sorry it has taken so long to reply.

I now have my NAV button doing all the right things. The guys at Dynon (MIke), and Avmap (Dan), have been very helpful.

Here is my Avmap setup...

software version 2.16.177
baud rate...4800
GPS output...processed
NMEA output streams, turn these on.
RMC
RMB
APB

The APB stream was not turned on, on my unit.

Be sure to have an active waypoint, and have the CDI turned on.

Thanks for all the help.
