Flying today with Lynchburg Virginia in sight from 6500 ft I selected nearest airport and didn't see it in the list. The airports listed were all 100 miles north or so. I switched to nearest nav aid and back and the local area was showing as expected. Good thing I was not having an emergency. Any thoughts!

Perhaps you had moved the cursor north about 100 miles, and it found the airports nearest to the cursor?
It's very probably what Eric said - if the map cursor is panned over to somewhere else, NRST shows the things nearest to it.
No the curser was inactive and the map centered on our current location. Switching from nearest airport to nearest nav and back brought up the expected result. Nothing was changed about the curser location. Almost like whatever stores present position for the calculation had not updated since takeoff 45 minutes earlier.

Just for debugging purposes...the first time you used the Nearest function, where you on the ground, in the hangar, on the ramp, in the air, etc.?
Did your GPS have a valid fix at that time?
