Will the new Garmin GNC 215 COM/NAV receiver integrate with Skyview?
Will it use the SL30 protocol over one of the serial ports like the SL30 did or the Trig TX-56A?

I was considering putting a Trig TX-56A in my plane ( with Skyview HDX AND SV-COM panel and SV-INTERCOM-2S panel), but the Garmin unit might be a better option, as it purports to integrate with the GPS175 that I am already adding.

Thoughts?

Dynon hasn't verified the 215, but it will probably work.

I'd suggest you research very carefully with an experienced tech who knows the 175, the 215, and HDX systems in and out and has first hand experience getting the G stuff fully functional with SkyView. The name 'Dynon' appears nowhere in the interoperability charts published in the ads for the 175 or 215.

At any rate, keep in mind you only have 5 serial inputs total. Your GPS2020 owns one. If you use a Dynon transponder, there goes a second port. If you have the ADSB-IN 472, there goes a third. If you have a backup GPS-in source (either SV250 or signal from your IFR GPS) there goes #4 of your 5 inputs. While I would expect the 175 to have an ARINC output - which would allow you to patch directly into the Dynon network thru the ARINC429 box w/o using up a serial port - I haven't seen it published. With the 215, emulation would take at least one and maybe 2 of your 5 ports.

Best of luck. Looking forward to seeing how it all grows into a compatible system. I'll no doubt learn a lot.

I don't know squat about the 215, but I have a dual HDX system with a GPS-175. The 175 talks to the HDX through ARINC lines to the ARINC 429 box and one serial OUT line (also to the ARINC 429 box - NOT directly to the HDX). The 175 also has one serial line to talk to my G5 and another to talk to the SV-XPNDR-261, but does NOT have any serial lines directly to the HDX.

You are right, however, that Dynon is skimpy on the serial lines - 5 really isn't enough in a complex environment, and the only reason I don't have all of them stuffed is that I elected not to have a backup SV250 GPS for the GPS2020, since the GPS175 can be the backup GPS source.

If the 215 DOES take 2 serial ports, that's a major issue. If only one, it might be OK.

Anybody have any new information about the 215 allowing frequencies to be pushed from the HDX?

These have been available for six months. Does Dynon have an answer yet on Skyview compatibility? or are they still waiting for the SL30 to somehow become un-obsolete.
