I would also like to know if it will come out soon, or an educated guess on when it will be released.
             Thanks,

The first pay for navigation mapping software release, which will include support for worldwide Jeppessen data, much improved airport/nav information, and more, is due in March and will cost $500. There will also be a free trial for 30 flight hours so you can try it out before deciding to buy it.

Is it actual flight hours or hours?- Specifically will it track the time one sits in a static plane setting up the Skyview and learning the mapping software towards the free trail? or does it start when the plane is actually in motion and flying?
Thanks!

Is it to early to list some of the built in features that will be in this next update? I'm hoping for a g-meter and improved nav features to include some of the suggestions that have been posted.
Thanks,
Larry

Will a database other than Jeppesen be available? I will have to have that for the GNS 480 and do not relish having to have another software subscription. That would make the Skyview map no better than an MX20. If a Jeppeson subscription is required for the upgraded map, will the base map now included be upgraded to include the display of a multileg flight plan transmitted to it from the X96 or Garmin 400/500 series like my 480?

Skysailor - if you don't want to pay for 2 databases then I'll buy the 480 off you.. ;D........ on second thoughts I don't think you'd want to sell it as Garmin still don't have a 'box' that comes close to the 480.

In the USA, the free database based off the free FAA data will continue to exist and we expect to do this for as long as we can. The main purpose for Jeppesen is for non-USA customers where we cannot get easy access to other countries data, and generally not for free.

The main features for the next release are:
G-Meter
Larger HSI
Jeppesen Data Support
Airspace Altitudes
Frequency Lookup
Full AFD text for USA airports

You are right about nothing coming close. I taught a guy his G1000 and that was the only thing close. Pricey too.

Yes, anywhere that has database coverage will show runways on Synthetic Vision. This is basically the whole world when we have Jeppesen data.

What will be the ongoing cost of this $500 option. From year to year. One tine cost and yearly cost are two different things, now that I am retired.

If you are in the USA there is no ongoing cost. If you are outside the USA then you will have an ongoing update cost for data from Jeppesen.

Good news all around, bring on the new update!

If you are in the USA there is no ongoing cost. If you are outside the USA then you will have an ongoing update cost for data from Jeppesen.

Please don't make the update cycles mandotary, but a choice. Here in south africa things typically stay static and only warrants an update occastionally. Mandatory updates just wastes money and make things more expensive than they need to be down here... ;)

A Jeppesen requirement is that we give you a warning that you must accept when a database is out of date, but you can keep using this data as long as you wish. There are no planned mandatory updates.
