We're excited to share two pieces of news. First, we are now shipping our 2020-compliant ADS-B Out position source - the SV-GPS-2020 GPS Receiver. We've also just released SkyView System Software version 14. In addition to support for the SV-GPS-2020, SkyView v14 includes over 30 new capabilities and improvements.

Highlights:

The SV-GPS-2020 GPS Receiver/Antenna from Dynon Avionics is now shipping.

SkyView System Software Version 14 is available as a free download from the Dynon Avionics website, enabling support for the SV-GPS-2020 and over 30 other features and improvements.

Major features in version 14 include checklists, aircraft glide ring, autopilot go-around mode, improved engine status for Rotax 912 iS pilots, and more.
Dynon Avionics’ breakthrough SV-GPS-2020 is now shipping. The SV-GPS-2020 enables General Aviation’s most affordable ADS-B Out 2020-compliant solution.

The new SV-GPS-2020 GPS Receiver/Antenna from Dynon lets new and existing SkyView and Advanced AF-5000 series customers add a 2020-compliant GPS position source for ADS-B Out for only $590. As a drop-in replacement for the existing SV-GPS-250 receiver, owners of existing systems do not need to run any additional wires, coax, or install any new boxes in their aircraft.

When combined with Dynon’s SV-XPNDR-261 Mode-S transponder, SkyView and Advanced Flight Systems customers meet all the 2020 mandate transponder and ADS-B Out requirements for $2790. Pilots can also add the SV-ADSB-470 Traffic and Weather ADS-B Receiver for the best-possible situational awareness in their aircraft.

SV-GPS-2020 Software Support

SkyView v14 includes support for the SV-GPS-2020, allowing US pilots to meet the FAA’s 2020 ADS-B Out requirements when paired with the SV-XPNDR-261 Mode-S transponder. SkyView’s new GPS Fix Status page and updated FAR 91.227 Compliance Status page help you ensure that you installation is configured properly.

Update for Continued ADS-B Traffic Reception (SIL/SDA 1 Issue)

Prior to early 2016, a SkyView system using an SV-GPS-250 as the GPS position source for ADS-B Out transmitted a SIL and SDA of 0. Beginning in 2016, a SIL and SDA of 1 is required by the FAA for the ADS-B infrastructure to transmit ADS-B traffic data to individual aircraft.

Using both internal and FAA-provided data, Dynon Avionics has conducted a rigorous analysis of the service history and field use of the SV-GPS-250 and the SkyView system as a whole. This analysis supports the use of the Dynon Avionics SV-GPS-250 as an ADS-B Position Source with a SIL/SDA level of 1. Dynon Avionics implemented the change to SIL/SDA in January 2016 as part of SkyView firmware version 14.0.

Note that this change only pertains to the SV-GPS-250. Aircraft equipped with an SV-GPS-2020 aircraft will transmit even higher SIL/SDA levels for full 2020-compliance.

More information about this issue is available in the SkyView System Installation Guide.

Aircraft Glide Ring

SkyView v14 enables the display of a wind-adjusted aircraft glide ring by utilizing aircraft performance parameters such as best glide speed, sink rate, and height above the ground:

Checklists

SkyView gains the ability to display checklists in version 14. Checklist files can be edited on any device that can edit text files. They are imported and exported like other SkyView Files.

Checklist Templates can be obtained from the SkyView Downloads Page.

Go-Around Mode

Pilots who have VNAV autopilot approach capability via a NAV radio or IFR GPS can now activate a “go-around” mode with the touch of a button. This allows the autopilot to continue to reduce the workload in a go-around situation.

When in VNAV mode, go-around mode can be activated via any of 3 mechanisms: pressing any of the Nose Up button on the SV-AP-PANEL, the AUTOPILOT > PITCH > GO AROUND button on-screen, or an optionally-connected external button. Go-around mode changes the AP lateral mode to TRK mode with the approach inbound course as the target. Pitch mode is switched to either IAS or VS mode (dependent on setup) with the default climb VS or IAS selected. An “ADD POWER” annunciation is also provided on the PFD page.

Rotax 912 iS Improvements

Most Rotax 912 iS pilots are familiar with the two EMS lamps that let them know whether an engine issue requires that the aircraft be landed immediately. SkyView v14 adds two new alerts to aid pilots in interpreting those lamps. ROTAX: LIMIT FLIGHT OP is provided for engine issues that do not require an immediate landing. ROTAX: LAND AIRCRAFT is used for issues that do require that the aircraft be landed as soon as possible. This guidance is identical to that which Rotax provides in its engine operation guide. Note that installers can still connect the Rotax ECU lamp discrete outputs to SkyView contact inputs to display the actual lamps on a SkyView EMS page.

Over 30 More Software Improvements

SkyView v14 includes over 30 more features and improvements. See the full list on the Dynon Avionics website.

Availability

The SV-GPS-2020 is available from dealers and directly from Dynon Avionics and Advanced Flight Systems. More information is available at the Dynon Avionics website.

SkyView System Software Version 14 is available now from the Dynon website software download page.

Hmph. Not sure what's up here. Anyway...

I don't see a fix for the brief ADS-B In Offline messages that was reported, listed in the fixes for this release. It was fixed, right?

Thanks reidvaitor - we've fixed that link.

The store does look to be up to us too. Here is a direct link to the SV-GPS-2020.

I don't think we found a smoking gun based on the logs we've seen so far. A few things have changed in serial communications behind the scenes (SV-GPS-2020 is a serial device), so it's possible that v14 could help. It doesn't look like there's a fix targeted directly at the issue though from what I can see. From the incidence rate over the fleet (a few people, from what I can tell), and very few other reports outside of the forum, it doesn't smell like a software issue.

Have any of you replaced hardware with our support team?

Also fails.  On 3 different browsers.  2 different computers. AND my iPhone.  Can get anywhere else on the internet, just not your store site, apparently :(

We're able to see it from California (where it looks like you are). Perhaps a workplace firewall?

So if I already have the gps250 and adsb, and the transponder Mode s...I don't need the 2020gps to be compliant? Good news if so. So What is the advantage then in getting the 2020version?

With that and V14.0 FW, you are good until Jan 1, 2020.  Then you are non-compliant.  The GPS-2020 is the permanent solution.

Must have been...I can see it now from home (same laptop). Weird. I'll tell the IT guys and find out why (usually we get a standardized message, not an error). In any event, can't wait to install this! Excellent news!

If we put our names on the waiting list, do we need to do anything special, or just go ahead and order one?

As said by someone else, you're okay until 2020, then non-compliant because the GPS-250 can only give you SIL=1, SDA=1, and the 2020 mandate requires higher settings. The new puck gives you that.

Just loaded up Skyview 14 without a problem.  It shows the transponder 91.227 as non compliant and SIL=1, SDA=1. Is this what I should see?

Thanks!

Until your SkyView system includes an SV-GPS-2020 (or other high integrity GPS), you are NOT compliant with USA 91.227.

Thus, your SkyView system IS reporting your particular SkyView system's compliance with 91.227 correctly. Your system will still continue to get all ADS-B services now that it is transmitting a SIL of 1. Full 2020 mandate compliance requires a higher integrity GPS such as the SV-GPS-2020.

We also answered your email to Technical Support

I'll have to put my order in for one next payday!

I sent an email to CASA (our version of the FAA) asking if they would consider approving the GPS-2020 for ADS-B down here, on the basis of it being FAA 'approved as meeting the requirements of the TSO' even though it does not old a TSO'd approval itself. Otherwise, you need a TSO'd GPS costing mucho $$.

Be interesting to see their thoughts on the matter.

Just a quick note that in addition to the checklist template, we've also implemented a spreadsheet that can help you create your own a little bit easier. Check it out on http://downloads.dynonavionics.com.

Dang, I could have saved the time it took creating my own. Doesn't work on my Ipad, but I will give it a try on my PC.

Thanks
