Sorry about that. Ours literally came together in a few hours. It's macro-enabled, so probably needs "real excel".

Question for the design guru's at Dynon: does the GPS-2020 utilise FDE and can account for SA should it be reintroduced? And does it output HPL to the XPNDR-261?

CASA have come back and said there is a self-evaluation checklist to consider whether or not they'll approve a non-TSO'd position source for ADS-B down here, and best I can tell, the FDE/SA and HPL questions are the only unanswerable ones so far...

Kevin,
The GPS-2020 absolutely communicates HPL to the ADS-B out system (the transponder). It also incorporates FDE and is SA-aware.

Do you have a link to the checklist that we can help out all our Australian customers?

Certainly do, it is contained in Appendix B to AC 21-45.

There's no question about the transponder, it's TSO'd for Mode-S and accepted by CASA already, but if CASA can be convinced the GPS-2020 is "an equivalent system" to use their words, it would open up a whole new market.

The actual legislation is a Appendix XI of Civil Aviation Order 20.18 that says, in essence, it must be TSO'd, approved by a national airworthiness authority, or another system approved by CASA in writing, which is where the checklist in the AC comes in.

Just wondering if there will, might, could be an upgrade option for existing GPS-250 owners. It seems a waste to just throw the old one out, as i would think most people will opt for the 2020 version going forward. Anyway, a suggestion to throw out there. :)

Actually I found there are many who have an approved GPS already in a different box, who have no need or desire for the 2020, so there is a market out there for the old 250. I sold mine on Vans Air Force Classified in 15 minutes, did not need it laying around collecting dust.

Why toss it?
It can be used as a secondary/backup GPS source (although, not ADS-B qualified).

Question for the Dynon guys (again!): AirServices Australia requires notification of surveillance capability as part of the flight plan, and there's several options depending on what kind of ADS-B equipment you have.

Does the SkyView transponder meet the "Enhanced Surveillance" requirements (roll angle, AP SEL ALT, VS, BARO Ref, etc...) or is it "just" ADS-B Out?

I've tried going through the various TSO's, but can't quite find the answer myself, either way.

When I do yet another flight 'test' later this week, & get a report from the Engineers at AirServices, I'll post the results.  If the 2020 is acceptable to them then you will use EB1 as the flight plan SSR input.
