Raymo, what you said is (optimistically) more hopeful than the other alternative.. If the hardware needs to be replaced or modified, well, then, that's a bigger hill to climb than just uploading new improved software with all those "... background checks taking place in the unit to monitor GPS integrity and warnings and loss of certain capabilities that take place if that integrity is lost. ..." (and validating it with FAA), that dlloyd mentioned.

The hardware should be ok, but software is a pretty big hill to climb.

Agreed airguy - that is the main reason that some companies get Trig & PS-ENGineering & others to rebrand for them. Why spend the time/effort/cost when you can buy excellent proven products off the shelf?

One reason that comes immediately to mind is that maybe those existing products are not quite as excellent as they could be, and their price is too high. If you can build a better mousetrap, the world will beat a path to your door.
