OAT Discrepancy

I've got dual ADHARS, everything is set up and working great. The only problem is the OAT's read about 4 degrees different from each other. I used the offset function to calibrate one, but from what I can tell it applies the same offset to both OAT probes (in my case making one even more wrong for a total of 5 degrees out). Is there a way to calibrate each probe separately?

We unfortunately had a few OATs get out of here that had small errors, and it sounds like you have one of them. You can't calibrate it, you need to replace it.

If you can figure out which one is accurate, then we'll be happy to send you another one to replace the one with the error.

As a follow on, I have a problem with the OAT in a D10A in the aircraft I currently fly. It reads accurately on the ground but is far too warm at altitude. This throws the True Airspeed calculations off. Since I am building two more aircraft (with Skyviews) I need to know if sensor placement is critical. Must the back of the sensor be immersed in the same temperature as the tip? The sensor on the present aircraft protrudes from the inside of the aircraft through the skin to place the tip outside. Is the warm cabin temp casing this or is this particular sensor bad? I need to resolve the issue before I do the other two installations on the Skyviews.

Yes it's important as you may get heat transfer, especially when using cabin heat that's why attaching to cabin air inlet is not a good idea unless the cabin side is cover with some good insulation to stop the heat transfer. ;)

Note that engine exhaust and sunlight will heat the probe too, so make sure those aren't the culprit.

The good news is your responses tell me to put the probe out in the wing. The bad news is trying to figure out how to run the additional wires!

If you have an RV (flying) then inside the wing root area is where I'd put the 2 wire OAT - 3 wire types in the tail area.

I was going to take the offending OAT out today and need some advice. With 0 offset programmed in the left OAT reads 43 while the actual temp of the probe is 47. The right OAT reads 49 while the actual is 44. Do you have a recommendation of which one to remove?

How are you determining "actual"? It's possible that both are among the bad batch. Give our support team a call at 425-402-0433.
