I'm running an EMS120 with my 180 HP Lycoming IO360 and it's very obvious the % of of power shown is way too high.

Any idea of how I can determine the actual % of power at any given time and how can I cordinate and adjust the settings shown on the EMS to indicate properly?

The aircraft has a controlable pitch prop.

Thanks

Lycoming publishes charts in their manual which are actually the basis for our calculations. Make sure you've set the horsepower and the redline in your EMS setup - both of those are used in the calculation. If your fuel flow readings were off, that can affect the readings as well.

One thing you can do, specifically, is jot down RPM, MAP, OAT, Altitude, the % hp, and whether the EMS is indicating ROP or LOP correctly (if it's not, that's an indication that something is wrong too. It should accurately tell you which side of the peak EGT you're on at all times. If you're on the ROP, you can compare those numbers that you've got with the Lycoming chart to see how far off you are.

Re: % of power not indicating

I too have a D120 EMS,with a Lycoming 180 HP, FP prop-there is no indication of power percentage reading next to the "%" sign. Could you just confirm what settings I have to have set in the Dynon to obtain an actual percent reading?? I am getting readings for MP, RPM and OAT and fuel flow :-/

In order to get % power, you need altitude.

On a D180, this is automatic from the EFIS. On a D120, you need to be hooked to an EFIS or a GPS. Check the install manual for how to do this.

Tks Dynon for your prompt sevice-I ran thru the set up on my Garmin GPS296 to "connect across" to the D120 EMS and it now works a treat giving me a percent power reading and also resetting the clock to the correct UTC time.Great!! :D
